Question About Chaos/Poison builds..

Hi, I am a bit new to PoE. I was going through PoE Ninja-Builds section to see what's popular. I noticed that not many people are actually using Chaos/Poison damage as main skill this league. Is there any specific reason? Like, is chaos damage weaker than other damage types or something like that?

It's not that it's weak
Just that delayed dmg isn't very popular currently. Poison can be strong though |

My personal favorite "poison" build is Arakaali summoner (spiders are poisoning the enemies).
For Poison attack skills, summoning wither totems and then attacking 20 times per second to inflict some poison stacks is not really my thing. I don't like standing still during boss fights / mapping. |

This is a bit of a random throwin but my dislike of chaos builds is entirely caused by wither, a mandatory 15 stack debuff you have to apply in every situation to match up to other skills.
I still play to play a few skills of that theme but its always held back. |

Another reason poison builds are not as popular this league...
The new archnemesis mods on rares. Day one of the league they were crazy OP, and they nerfed them 3 times. But... They did not nerf the "immune to wither" mod, completely negating the most important dps buff to poison/chaos builds. | |

Chaos / Poison is pretty popular. Poison Seismic Traps was one of the most meta league starters for SSF and had equal usage to crit variants in trade league. Poisonous Concoction, Bane, Poison Lightning Strike are also popular choices. There are lots of other good choices like Toxic Rain, Venom Gyre and Scourge Arrow.
For mid-high investment builds, arakaali's fang, strength stacking venom gyre, cyclone or power siphon using replica alberon boots, both self-cast and CoC forbidden rite and poison spark are all popular. Last edited by BrettLee#6388 on Aug 2, 2022, 9:22:06 PM

It's not really unpopular but not a great choice for noobs. Poison is usually done with Shadow and he is a difficult character to keep alive.
