Hardcore Sentinel to Standard on death

I do not understand why the game switched me from SFF Hardcore Sentinel to SSF Standard on death ... am I still in Sentinel but it just doesn't say so on the character selection screen? If not, why am I no longer in SSF Sentinel? This makes no sense to me, surely on death it should at least stay in Sentinel even if it's no longer in hardcore?

any hardcore character that dies, is immediately moved to *standard*, not league.

Dead hardcore characters are always sent to the parent leagues, ie the main Standard and SSF Standard leagues. It has always been this way in PoE.

I think the point is to make dying in hardcore league as impactful as possible. If you got switched to softcore league when you died then to many it wouldn't feel like such a penalty, and I imagine many people would league-start in hardcore because there's practically no downside.
