Blood-Filled Vessels not consumed

I've been doing a ritual strategy and got all the ritual nodes in the atlas tree. I've got a few blood-filled vessels to use with my maps, but when I put in a map and a vessel nothing seems to happen, the vessel is not consumed and I don't always get a ritual when using it.
