Constant cpu spikes and fps drops (solved)
https://youtu.be/XBWBFrf95OI
It was ok when I stopped playing in 3.17.2. It happens in my ho and towns when I visit them for the first time. Then it sometimes happens when monster packs appear on the screen for the first time. Sometimes it happens after I use a skill. Sometimes it happens without monsters on the screen. Sometimes it happens when I change instances. Sometimes it lasts for 30 seconds while I'm just standing still in a middle of a map. tried different maps, characters and skills. tried reloading pc tried reinstalling the game tried dx11 and vulkan tried all different settings (it gets little better with medium texture quality) Steam client Windows 7 x64 intel i7-2600 3.40GHz 12gb ram Nvidia Geforce GTX 970 (latest drivers) 4gb vram Last edited by Dimka89#5782 on Apr 26, 2022, 2:57:19 PM Last bumped on May 10, 2022, 5:31:30 PM

Not sure, but maybe the new patch uses more vram..
I remember having a ton of issues with several 970's, and it turned out that the supplier I kept ordering from didn't have new stock, so they were all old BIOS's.. apparently, bios version matters for the 970 because of the 3.5GB vram scam, games that go above 3.5GB vram might stutter like crazy. I'm not recommending you flash your vbios, but it might be worth looking into? Though I guess in your case it's a CPU issue... so might be completely useless info |

" it's eats vram to full, that's a problem |

Game used 30% of vram after launch.
I ran 4 maps and went to town - it became 45%. Then I switched to high graphics, also ran couple maps, went to town and it became 70%. So my vram is ok. If I just stand and do nothing in map/ho/town (and even after 5 minutes of standing) I have those cpu spikes. And when the spike is big my fps drops. http://www.screencapture.ru/file/922BAc13 I also tried to turn off my antivirus and every other background process. It didn't help. |

I have found a solution. You need to either disable engine multithreading in poe settings (for me it removes spikes but my processor is not powerfull enough) or disable multithreading optimization in nvidia control panel (I still have cpu spikes but they no longer affect fps).

I have exactly the same problem -- i7-2700k, 8GB, RX 570 4GB, SSD.
Massive CPU spikes on the graph every second or two and stuttering/pausing of up to 1 second sometimes, which makes the game unplayable. Disabling multithreading does remove the stutter but my FPS falls way too low. SOLUTION: This may sound crazy (and IS a crazy way to resolve this, wake up GGG!), but try opening a browser in the background and playing a video such as on Youtube while you're running PoE in the foreground. When I do this my graph still shows occasional CPU spikes but smaller and less often, and movement seems stutter-free. When I pause the vid, the stutter returns. When I resume playing it the stutter goes away. I can only assume that playing a vid in the background prevents PoE from fully utilising the CPU cores and hitting a virtual wall somewhere. This is not my solution, I saw it on a different forum and it worked for me... just passing on the info. Last edited by Marker77#3937 on May 10, 2022, 4:53:04 PM
