Overlay map
I like having the overlay map enabled when I explore -- I frequently rely on this when navigating, and the minimap does not give me enough information.
This is not perfect -- I have it map transparency set for maybe 20% opaque and with landscape transparency even less opaque. This means that in bright areas I have problems seeing the map. But mostly it works for me. HOWEVER Recently, I started having a problem where the minimap would pop up when I was fighting / exploring. To try to avoid this issue, I changed my "Overlay Map" key to be comma. This means that I could be sure that I was never accidentally hitting that key in combat. But, despite this, my overlay map would still switch to the minimap in combat. ... So... I have questions: 1) Has anyone else encountered similar problems? 2) Does anyone know why this could be happening to me? 3) Is there any way of completely disabling the minimap (outside of going into Options)? If you have double checked that you have no other keybind for it and no macro that could be "pressing" the assigned key on accident, you could try to check whether there is an issue with your keyboard sending wrong signals on occasion.
While stuff like hitting Z and hiding item labels is fairly common, this is the first time I have heard of the map / minimap switching views mid-combat. |

" I like how you think, but if these are relevant for me I have questions on how to proceed... When I look at my keyboard configuration in Options > Input, I only see one key option for any command. Is there some way of configuring an alternate button for these commands? I do not get commas showing up in text when I hit "combat keys" in a command window. If POE uses some different system for identifying, do you know of any software which would emulate that process that I could use to double check? (But, also, simulating combat in my hideout does not cause my map to switch.) (Also... I do not use macros.) |

I have heard of older keyboards malfunctioning on occasion, especially when many keys are pressed at a time. So I thought it was at least worth investigating. I do not know whether there is a better way to test it however.
You could consider making a bug report including a video showcasing the undesired behaviour and a log of the key presses you performed in that time period. If there is no evident problem in those, it might really be a bug that needs to be fixed. If you need software to log your keys be very careful in selecting which to use. Logging keystrokes in the background to steal passwords is a type of malware, so you have to make absolutely sure it only runs while you record the video. |

I have not found anything good for logging keystrokes.
What I really want is something which logs key events by overlaying the game video. This is important for several reasons: (1) Latency and lag are important and timing is important and consequent game interactions are important -- showing when key event and release events happen should be ... not easy, but straightforward, and (2) Like you said, I want to know when it is running. There's plenty of people who know how to overlay on top of game video, but apparently none of them have thought about building a key mapper. Or maybe I am overlooking something really obvious? |
