100% crit capped Cold damage build + low added flat Fire damage = Ignite?
|
Hi there,
Quick question regarding ignite as I cannot fully comprehend it (as I've never really used it/built a character around it). I'm playing a Cast on Crit Ice Spear build, currently looking for a way to squeeze more DPS into it. I'm using the Cinderswallow Urn flask mainly for Onslaught and ES recovery on kill, until I noticed the ignite mod (increased damage taken to enemies ignited by you). I have never thought of utilising the mod as a Cold Dmg build until now. I bought a ring with a flat fire damage added mod, I'm also crit capped. If I understand correctly, any 100% critical hit with at least a portion of it coming from fire damage ignites an enemy. Do I then ignite my enemies or not, even if the added fire damage is low compared to the cold damage I deal? Do I then utilise the increased damage taken to ignited enemies mod from the flask? The reason I'm wondering is that I've never noticed the ignite ailment icon below the enemy's health bar (no matter whether a boss or a trash mob), but I could sometimes see enemies/enemies' corpses burn (either in yellow or green - green, I guess, being a colour related to the Cinderswallow flask). Thanks in advance! Last bumped on Apr 16, 2022, 8:46:12 AM

All is correct. Ignite doesnt have a symbol like shock or chill and they are indeed burning green from ignite because of cinderswallow.

" Ignite has status icon.....wtf with the troll answer..... (If you Ignite monster and the icon is not showing under monster nameplate, then it is a bug. But it does not mean Ignite has no icon at all) To thread starter. If you have 100% Ignite chance from 100% crit, you still need to have positive non-zero enough fire damage , otherwise it is discarded . This is the start of forum signature: I am not a GGG employee. " Ok so Im not allowed to be wrong? I was thinking of the % and got that confused with the icon. Glad to know you are perfect and never have made a mistake in your life though. |

" So, if the enemy is affected by a damaging ailment (be it ignite, bleeding, whatever), the icon doesn't show? " Ah, now I'm confused : D What's then considered to be 'enough' fire damage for the ignite not to be discarded? Also, I've read that ignites with a duration less than 0.3s are entirely ignored - how so? Aren't ignites always 4s? Sorry for all these noob questions, can't really wrap my head around it all : D thanks! |

ignite has always 4 seconds of base duration. the "0.3s" note in wiki is just wrong and belongs to other ailments like freeze (wiki is made by players and they are sometimes wrong or make mistakes)
you can check your skill bar tooltips to see if your skills have the fire damage portion. If so then your skills will ignite on crit (I not entirely sure how the game handles low numbers regarding this, ie what happens when you deal 1 fire damage to resistant enemy, but as long as your base fire damage is at least two-digit, you are fine) " dont worry, he just feels like being master of these forums (despite limited game knowledge especially on mechanics), even keeps on telling GGG's forum moderators what to do.. " Thanks for the confirmation! I do have at least two-digit fire damage listed in my Cyclone/Ice Spear tooltips, so I guess I'm fine. Actually, regarding the icon, the 3.15 patch notes say the following: " So it's actually not a bug that there's no ignite icon below the enemy's lifebar (as it's a damaging ailment), you were right @gladiatorpie. Thanks for all your answers guys, truly appreciated! |

" There are modifiers that reduce the ignite duration |
