Wondering how POE utilizes CPU cache
With the release of AMD 5800x3D,we have access to more CPU cache than ever. On paper it sounds quite beneficial to the type of workload an MMORPG requies like loading a big harbinger pack.
As seen from reviews, Factorio enjoyed a massive performance boost with the big cache and I wonder if POE utilizes cache in a similar way. Last bumped on Sep 5, 2022, 2:59:09 AM

Yeah, I'm tempted to buy it and benchmark PoE..
But honestly, if AM5 gets a big bump in cache like the X3D then I'm just going to wait. Ain't buying a CPU with this much uncertainty to how well it'll perform in PoE. A 5700X is a much cheaper CPU, and better, if you only play games that don't benefit from the cache.. Damnit.... Can anyone at GGG comment on whether or not triple the cache will be a huge difference? :P |

im curious too.. I want buy new cpu and i hesitate between 5900x and 5800x3d :/
Thinking only about PoE (mostly) what will be best choice? What is better option for full party play in high juiced maps? "y i know poe lives his life and we can't skip some isue.. even with NASA gear.." But still maby one is better choice than other ?? 5800x3d with 8 cores / 16 threads / 3.4 GHz / L3 Cache 96MB or 5900x with 12 cores / 24 threads / 3.7 GHz / L3 Cache 64MB anyone can help ??? maby tested with this two ?? |

I bought a 5800x3D and it has been a great upgrade from my 2600 on 1080p.
I never dipped below 50fps in simulacrum and avg 25 fps in triple beyond T16 80% deli maps when giga harby spawns. In less demanding areas, the gameplay/movement also feels smoother. But I am not sure if its the cpu itself or the extra cache that affects the performance. I am playing omi lightning striker without HH. Not the most resource intensive character but I think it is a rather resource demanding character for the pc. |

" umm find it weird.. i never dropped under 80+fps on 2k with 5600x (undervolted tho) my 5800x3d is ready to pick up ill find time this week to install it. but yes i think maybe its possible you are GPU bound ? the gry fog in simulacrum apparently has alot to do with gpu.. what effect the cpu is that they are fairly tanky and many of them so you hit often which require alot of data. also cpu intensive in term of build is more the attack speed number of projectiles and hits.. that has to be calculated far as i know (might def be wrong) but visual demending like lets say the orange stormcall.. its like 99% gpu .. you could spam it in HO without hitting anything and frame would drop the 5800x3d should only help when its CPU causing reduced peformance. . often like when it needs alot of calc and data and need to access ram or ssd to get that.. like "miss" for the data.. so it should help with situations where there are lots of monsters and when you hit fast like cyclone but we will see ill test it all once i install it |

You are probably right, I am rocking a 1660ti only. What are you running as your GPU?
I am still waiting for the GPU prices to go back to normal before I go for any sorts of upgrades. I paid 280 for the 1660Ti and I am not going to spend double the money to get marginal improvement. I am satisfied with my setup atm anyways. |
