How Ashes of the Star improves Fire Additional Projectile?

I see there are some alternative Gems with Fire extra projectile. Does Ashes of the Star grant more? I know you can get a perfect 30% quality improvement on the Gems. I just don't know how 30% improves something that is not % based. My brand has 5% chance double damage and with 30% added quality, it's 12%.

its all about what 1% quality does to the gem.

armageddon brand has '.25% chance to deal double damage' per 1% quality.

a 20% armageddon brand, with a 30% ashes, would have 50% quality. thats 12.5% chance to deal double damage, probably rounded down to 12%.

ethereal knives has '.1 additional projectiles' per 1% quality.
with 20% qual, thats 2 additional. with 50% qual, thats *5* additional projectiles.

ashes is *very* strong with some of the alternative quality gems.

EK can only hit the target once per hit. Why do you need 25 of them? For Blade Blast?

mainly for coverage (and fun)

with such large number of projectiles, EK fires them in 180+ degree angle, which in combination with high projectile speed feels very comfortable for clearing.

(I did not even consider Blade Blast, because most of my lingering blades land off-screen)

I'm using the same amulet. It really les you abuse some alternate quality mechanics. Some aren't even that expensive. Some, like Divergent CWDT and Anomalous Blood Rage, made me want to cry.

Oh, support gems do not gain the +20-30% quality. DCWDT cannot reduce damage by 50%....I just prefer it for an auto bomber build.

I would mention anomalous flame dash, 50% increased distance makes a lot of difference

I would mention Vaal Molten Shell - 50% quality => 4.5 seconds/13.5 seconds duration.
