Is Derelict Map device just for decoration?

I've just bought the new Synthesis hideout and it comes with the Derelict Map device on the hideout item's tab.
I've tried placing it on my hideout but I can't use it to open any maps. It is just for show? Last bumped on Mar 3, 2022, 8:01:07 PM

I don't have the synthesis lair, but I've had 'derelict map device' in my edit/decor menu since forever and I've never seen that it does anything. I tried it a couple times as well. Nothing.

thats kinda what 'derelict' means; broken, junk, abandoned.

Your actual map device has 2 different sizes; really frikin' big and small.
Have you tried placing a small map device within the derelict map device? I don't have that particular mtx, but I did do this to my default map device;   17/04/2021 https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/3082616/page/1
