Petrified Blood - Buff It Against DoT/Increased Mitigation Against One Shots

Petrified Blood simply does not justify 35% mana reservation, or being used at all for that matter.

DoTs are 100% more effective, does nothing against one shots and reserves mana when you could just be using Enfeeble for a, without a doubt, vastly superior effect.

Against one shots is even worse. Say you have 10k life and you take a 10k hit. You die. Now you have Petrified Blood. You have 5k life and you die anyway because the hit is 6k. That's a 20% more damage taken.

Slayer over leech doesn't justify the downsides, which are alredy plenty. You also lose light radius btw.

But how could it be fixed?

Bump the damage from hits to 55%, but mitigated damage is always taken over 4 seconds.

Mitigate DoT from all sources to counteract the HP being halved.

Rework the gem entirely so all damage from all hits are prevented, but then taken over 2 seconds instead. That way, you won't actually know which DoT killed you.

Petrified Blood is a way to give life builds a viable way of going low life, but honestly, the way PoE is at the moment, if it isn't something that mitigates DoTs or one shots, it simply isn't worth it.

When using Petrified Blood, generally you want to have your life full - for example, use a life flask from time to time. Another option is to reserve life, but then you already got something in return for the missing ehp against one shots.

I think it's in a good place for summoners, for attack/caster builds there are better options (grace, determination, enfeeble, purities, etc).

im using petrified blood on my exsanguinate elementalist. with high armor, golem defenses, some es, and a decent life pool, i was able to safely clear juiced t16s in absolute trash gear.

thing about petrified blood is you gotta plan around it, and for it. sufficient life recoup will completely nullify the secondary dot effect and even heal the hit that gets through your other defenses (ms, es, aegis).

it gives you a ton of options properly used. myself, i have all my mana and half my life reserved, and combined with my golems, i have defenses for days. and petrified blood is a huge part of that.
Comparing it to enfeeble? You mean the thing that is limited by the amount of curses you can apply? That thing that needs two gem slots because without blasphemy the comparison makes even less sense? This what has only limited range because of blasphemy? The thing that doesn't apply to hexproof enemies? The thing which is less effective on bosses even without hexproof?

In short: it's a curse, Petrified Blood is not. ;)

And that's the trap. If you remove PB, you'll still be tankier than not using it. "Planning around it" nullifies the 40% hit portion, but the 60% hit, with even less effective hp pool, kills you regardless.

PB cuts 20% of effective hp pool and doesn't really give anything in return. It just gives you the impression that you are more resilient because it delays hits that you would otherwise survive anyway. One shots still kill you, DoTs are 100% stronger. I would rather use flesh and stone as a more reliable source of defense.

Yes?
You mean the thing that can be easily increased with a single annoint?
The thing that is easily obtainable in implicit without using gem slots?
That will work on hit with anything in implicit?
That can be easily rerolled if you don't want to play hexproof maps?
That still gives a better benefit at 33% effectiveness than the noob trap PB is?

In short: if you can't come with a decent defense on why one should be using PB at all, being an ignorant clown certainly suits you.

For 35% mana reservation you get killed faster by DoTs, one shots are even more dangerous and you're forced to build completely around it or it's a useless placebo effect.

Yes, i'd rather enfeeble.

i have over 120k ehp thanks to PB. not only does it free you up to use your life for auras (specifically, defensive ones like determination and purity), but it also lets you run LL for the massive damage boost it offers to spell casters. yer just using it wrong.

Yet all calculations say otherwise. If you have 120k ehp with PB, i guarantee you're calculating things wrongly. It's an offensive layer that enables lowlife builds for hp and makes you take 20% more damage.

Edit: Too stupid to notice PB doesn't mitigate any DoT damage, builds to mitigate literally every DoT damage in existence to mitigate it.
