Why Do My Spectres Change Changing Zones

This is happening on a regular basis and I can find no explanation in-game or in the Wiki.

For example, I just got 3 Katava's Heralds while starting Act 10 but after zoning to my Hideout and a couple of other zones I realise they had all changed to walking melee skeletons.

Same thing has happened with Carnage Champions on more than one occassion.

What am I doing which is causing this? The original ones never die, they're just zone-spawning as more basic mobs.

Hard to tell, can't see your setup.

Shot in the dark here; are you by chance using Soul's Wick?

A BLATANT LIE by the HMFIIC.
Perhaps GGG should consider a leadership change.

My bad, I'd set all the options Private when I started a couple of months back.

No.

I think I've made things public now so perhaps you'd be good enough to take a quick look in case it's something obvious. My gear is pretty mediocre and simply there to get through the story.

I have another Necro on Standard and I don't recall ever seeing this happen to her.
Are you sure you're not accidentally raising new spectres during gameplay?

I've found myself doing that from time to time, fat fingers or whatever. So now I make sure that I remove the Raise Spectre skill from my skill bar after I've raised the spectres I want so that I don't accidentally overwrite them with shambling skeletons during some hectic encounter.

OMG Acrylic is absolutely correct; I should've caught that as well.

Raise Spectre and Animate Guardian are two skills you never keep on your skill bar. I (and many others) also go as far as to place all auras on the secondary skill bar (press L-shift) to prevent accidental de-activations.

As far as your build is concerned, if you are interested in Necro playstyle, may I recommend you read Odif's newbie guides and perhaps eventually Kay's massive summoner guide.

I am not saying you should strictly follow a guide, but instead to understand their choices for skill combos and gear to help you with YOUR choices.

Stay sane Exile!

Um, yeah, call me hugely embarrassed!

Of course, after you pointed that out I quickly realised that was the problem .. on my Standard character I did have it on the alternate bar along with the Auras but on this one I had put it on the main bar intending it to be for a brief period, but stupidly it stayed there.

Highly appreciate the help guys, I was convinced there was a 'system' reason for it, not stupid user error!

As for the build I started playing SRS as a result of a build posted for the challenges last December because it was the first I'd seen where there was no 'required' gear to at least get to maps .. a 'league starter' of sorts which for me as a new player was helpful when starting with nothing to allow me to get to at least starting early maps where I realise I'll hit a wall at some point.

Most builds of course assume a good stock of currencies to trade with but I don't see myself trading in POE given the lack of what I would call a traditional multi-player 'auction house' mechanic .. I don't feel comfortable using third-party web-sites and in-game player-to-player trading, I read many horror stories about scamming when looking at the way players buy and sell, such a pity GGG is so 'anti' an in-game system.

Anyhow, I appreciate the links Bjorn_Angannon, I held off reading guides till I got some idea of how the game plays but I do intend to look to working with a 'real' guide once I have some resources from early mapping.

Again, I appreciate the help.

Funny conclusion to this but I can relate, good to know its not a bug tho.

You should try Absolution btw, its by far the best minion skill right now and all you need to make it work is a 4link helmet and a essence of insanity (preferably open prefix for +1 AOE craft).
Just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get me.
