Steam POE Keeps Crashing
|
My game crashes very regularly, like every 15 or so minutes. Sometimes I can go a couple hours of playing before a crash, other times it crashes within 5 minutes of launching it.
I am running Windows 10 Home, on the latest build (Version 21H2 OS Build 19044.1415), an RTX 2070 video card, Ryzen 7 2700x CPU, 32GB of G.Skill TridantZ RGB RAM clocked at 2933MHz (XMP Profile 1), a MSI x470 Gaming Plus motherboard, the game is on a 1TB SSD and Windows is on my 250GB SSD. My 1TB SSD has 474GB of free space, and my 250GB SSD has 133GB of free space. I recently did a fresh install of Windows 10, because I was in the Windows Insider Program and wanted to leave it. I was getting crashing before I did the fresh install, and they are still occurring after the fresh install. I have tried the following to fix the crashes: 1. the latest BIOS version installed 2. latest GeForce Game Ready Driver 3. updated all of my drivers 4. I have set the game to ask for admin privileges every time I launch it 5. I have disabled VSync and Engine Multithreading settings in game 6. I have verified integrity of game files 7. I have gone into task manager and set priority for POE to high 8. I have disabled full-screen optimizations in the properties of POE 9. I have minimal tasks running in the background (only like Discord and sometimes a Google Chrome tab or two will be open - background apps are Steam, TaskbarX, Wallpaper Engine (settings are set to stop the wallpaper animations while the game is fullscreen), Razer Chroma & Synapse services, f.lux, and some NVIDIA stuff. 10. I also have almost all of the game settings on low. I have no idea why this game keeps crashing, I feel like I have tried everything. I really enjoy this game and I sucks that it is basically unplayable now. Can someone help me? Last bumped on Jan 15, 2022, 8:58:39 PM

I have the very same situation on similar HW setup since... I think december 2021.
On top of what you listed, I have also tried deleting the cache folder and switching between Vulkan/DX, none of it helped. It often happens mid simulacrum or when returning to it after ripping out, also sometimes returning to a map (most recently Summit) after trade in HO. I have had unresponsive/CTD rarely in delve (I do remember one crash from a boss arena there) and couple of times from HO when getting a trade invite and clicking on the portal icon of the party member to trade. By the way, Im running the game in windowed full screen for trade macro reasons and fast alt+tab. Just for scientifical reasons I will test it in full screen to see if that changes. Hold the phone... |

I noticed the admin rights in your list and didnt remember if I had that done. Gave that to the exe first thing and almost 24h up no crashes.
I would have tried texture to medium next since some recommend that with vulkan, lets see if it will be needed (its set on high currently). Hope you can find the solution too! =) |

beside that the game doesn't need admin rights, can you try the standalone version?
if the client crashes, you can lookup the window event logs for the reason of the crash, there should be a error code. posting it here won't help you cause the game automatically uploads it to ggg on client crashes already but sometimes it points to some specific issue or there are other errors before the crash. -- in every case, when the client crashes, just make sure that the resource file is clean by running packcheck.exe as the sticky posts for trouble shooting in this forum section suggest. if you're experiencing lag, run a winMTR when you have problems against the ip address you can find in the game's logfile (client.txt) age and treachery will triumph over youth and skill!

I've been having this issue as well for about a week I think. I'll enter a map and a few seconds later it crashes to desktop. Reload, enter map, and crash again. Repeat for all 6 portals. It's not really juiced maps with crap all over either. Just regular alch and go stuff. Sometimes I'll play for hours without a crash, but once the crashes start it's non stop until I give up.
