Fortify 100% useless in deep delve

Plz fix GGG. Mechanic is flawed.

It shouldnt be hard for a melee character to maintain full stacks.

Even with 1 mill damage per hits and 10 mill dps i couldnt get more than 2 stacks against Aul at depth 650ish.

The fortify change was meant for caster to be unable to maintain their stacks.

Whats the point of a defensive mechanic that doesn't work agains the hardest content?

I agree that this Fortify change is totally ridiculous. Basically nonexistent against bosses.

But I think the same is true for all "normal" applications of ailments and the like. Scaling off of percentage damage dealt to enemies just makes strong characters get stronger. And even then, if you're strong via "death by 1000 cuts," you're still screwed.




Why not buff melee, instead of nerf casters?

IMO fortify never was a good mechanic to start with.
Thematic perspective: If I am a big bad barbarian doing a battlecry and charging a boss and get hit before I hit the boss I dont have fortify.
And now they changed it so that its even worse. They should fix this thing in principle by character build choice rather. Make melee tankier for the price of being less able to do other things. They have all the tools: Passive Masteries, Ascendancies, Keystones, Warcries, Reservation Skills like Banners, ... A simple fix - and it would be easy to understand too. Instead they come up with some convoluted incomprehensible mechanics which end up not working properly...
No wonder it's lost, it's in the middle of the jungle!

Yes, the system is flawed. Making it based on damage is "defective by design". Many expensive high DPS non-melee glass cannon builds will achieve way more melee damage than a not-so-expensive defensive Hardcore melee build. Thus using damage output simply isnt a workable solution.
Looking at the one functional Fortify (Champion) I am not even sure GGG wants to fix it: Champion Fortify has nothing to do with melee or not.

make fortify an aura. hell, BAKE IT INTO determination.
Ive got a nice idea. Make fortify apply at full strenght if you hit with a melee skill but only from your highest linked setup. If your highest linked setup is a 6 link and its a melee skill and you hit with it, then you get fortify max stacks. Oh and just to make sure, that same link setup can't have any spell tag in it.

Clunky.

I don't even see what was wrong with the previous iteration. God forbid we add a defensive layer, in the game that's always trying to oneshot us??? Are they trying to make people build more & more glassy, so we are more & more incentivized to play "20m 3-screen DPS" builds that oneshot Shaper before he can basic attack?




I mean - naturally, I understand that GGG's business practice is to force its players to die periodically so that we feel like "there's more to learn" and thus "more reason to keep playing". But changing Fortify just kind of makes it way more exposed than I think GGG intends it to be.
Fortify grants 90% less spell damage during effect but gets full effect on hit.

All casters excluded except theyake the heavy trade. Yes summoners you are the target too.
