[FEEDBACK] Please Increase Camera Distance / Decrease Zoom
I've been comparing the cameras used in PoE 2 and PoE, and the sequel's camera is further back / zoomed further out, and it looks much better to play with.
I'd be lying if I said the current camera doesn't feel claustrophobic to play it? I understand it's always been this way but surely you guys changed it in PoE 2 because you feel the same way? Pls help us Last bumped on Dec 6, 2021, 1:26:45 PM

Zooming further out really should be an option. I loved it when they implemented that in the Sirus fight.

this keeps coming up, i made this same thread about 9 years ago, and we eventually got an answer ages back, and ive repeated that answer in these threads as theyve popped up more times than i can remember xD
they know it feels better zoomed out, we know, but theres technicals involving game optimisation and the way they have created the individual tiles the random levels are built from that means they cant zoom out without taxing peoples systems nearly 3x as much. the way jonathan explained it iirc is that you stand on a level tile, and the game has loaded the tiles around that one so you can move in any direction seamlessly. so imagine the tile you see is in the middle with ones around it, its a 3x3 block of 9 tiles. now imagine they zoom out the camera and instead of seeing that 1 tile in the middle of the 3x3 block you now see all 9, well now they need to load an extra row around the edge of that in all directions, which is a 5x5 grid. thats 25 tiles loaded, previously we had 9, its nearly 3 times as many. the levels are already built at a certain size, everything is in the scale its in, the engine is optimised around what we currently see and game performance is already an issue. it seems like its just hey, go into the code and set the zoom out from 30 to 45 and its all good. but apparently its not that easy or they would have done it ages ago. the way you need to fix it is to keep you seeing 3x3 tiles, but then reduce the scale of the character models and everything on those tiles so its smaller. that means remaking the entire games content... hence why its done in poe2 where they have made the new levels from scratch, but is just beyond doing for poe1. I love all you people on the forums, we can disagree but still be friends and respect each other :)
