How to use my GGG login in the Steam version of the game?

A long time ago I used to play PoE through Steam, somehow that broke and I started using the standalone installation. Recently a friend started playing through Steam, so I also installed that version. However, it's login defaults to my Steam account.
1. Is there an alternative login where I use my GGG account instead? 2. Can I create my Steam account with the current GGG account as a basis. Of course I can just play the standalone game. I'm certainly not starting all over, which would lose my all my microtransactions, progress in Scourge, and more. Last bumped on Nov 24, 2021, 9:57:46 AM

Hey there, RealRoodvlees! You can add or remove a Steam account from a Path of Exile account at your Manage Connections page: https://www.pathofexile.com/my-account/connections
If you currently have a secondary Path of Exile account which is already linked with your Steam account, you can login to the Path of Exile website using the green "Sign in through STEAM" button to access the account and remove the Steam account link. You will need to ensure you have an email address attached the the secondary Path of Exile account before removing Steam account link, which you can also check from the Manage Connections page.
