Caster Catalyst quality affecing curse on hit rings incorrectly (2 112 943 158)
The tier 1 ring suffix "Curse enemies with [X curse] on hit, with 32% increased effect" doesn't seem to properly scale with caster catalyst quality (Imbued Catalyst).
At 20% quality this modifier only goes up to 36% as opposed to, I'd assume, the correct value of 38%. I was certain I've seen 38% increased curse effect coh rings before, so I looked up standard listings for coh rings, and those only go up to 36% as well. Is something wrong or am I just going nuts? Did this only break this league or is it exclusively a tooltip issue? At first I figured that the modifier is messed up in such a way that catalyst quality somehow assumes the lower tier value of the increased curse effect, which is 20%. In that case, only increasing it by 4% at 20% quality would make somse sense. ...Except it's definitely not that, because the 32% inc curse effect goes up to 34% at 7% quality, and to 36% at 14%. Nothing changes in the 15-20% quality range. My conclusion is that this is either unintended, or just supremely confusing. Alright, status update: I believe I figured it out.
Normally, at 32% increased curse effect, we should get an additional 1% per about 3.5% quality. However, in PoE, stuff is for the most part always rounded down. There were 2 solutions to this specific case: A) Make it so that increased curse effect goes up by 1% at 4%, 7%, 10%, 13%, 16%, and 19% quality. B) Increase curse effect by 2% every 7% of quality. GGG Understandably chose option B as it is far less messy, or perhaps some other reason. Or at least that's what I assume, could be entirely wrong. Regardless, the result is an effect that puts you through some mental gymnastics just to figure out why it isn't doing what you expect it to do. So at the end of the day, we are robbed of 2% increased effect on our level 1 curse. Truly build breaking, I know. I'd like to see this changed so we can either achieve 38% inc coh ring curse effect like the numbers imply we can, or clearly identify that the number cannot be increased above 36%. The issue may be very minor, but it's an issue nonetheless. No matter what happens, the list of things that could one day drive me mad just got shorter. Party over here, I'll be over there. curse on hit mods(both glove corruptions(40%, 44% or 48%) and rings(20/24 or 32/36) only have the effect in 4% increments.
there is no bug here. |
