Help me understand fortify new wording

What exactly do these things mean on the passive tree?
"Fortifying hits grant 20% increased fortification" "+1 to maximum fortification" ?? Last bumped on Nov 2, 2021, 4:39:06 AM

It's explained in the 3.16 patch notes. Fortify has been changed to a stacking buff that depends heavily on scaling melee damage. Each stack of Fortify=1% less damage taken from hits.
I have a pretty good sense of humor. I'm not German.
