Major FPS Drops

Hello,

Was wondering if anyone else was having FPS drops while mapping? While in town/hideout I keep a steady 100 fps where I have it locked. As soon as I map and get to any sort of group of mobs instantly dropping to 20-40 frames. I hit the Scourge mechanic and sometimes I completely freeze it feels like and then frames are about 5-10 for a few seconds and then go back up depending on mob density. Really struggling to nail down this problem as its very jarring to play like this. I have died a few times to bosses and other league mechanics just strictly due to freezing/ major frame drops. So I know its not just the Scourge mechanic. I am on full screen, nothing really opened in background, turned all settings down, fps locked, installed on SSD, tried Vulkan and DX11. Neither seems to be too much better than the other. I have an 8700k CPU and 1080ti GPU neither goes about ~40% usage either. If anyone has some suggestions to try let me know! I am willing to give it go. Thanks in advance if anyone has any ideas!

I'm also having this issue, it started today.
My FPS suddenly drops down and screen freezes at times during higher density packs. This wasn't a problem before.
hey, did u fix this problem? My friend got same problem 1 day later, he cnat play and we dont know what to do
I've been having a possibly similar problem since yesterday. I've noticed that my FPS has dropped significantly when in PoE. When I Alt+Tab out of the game and pull up MSI Afterburner it shows my GPU running significantly slower than in other programs, just under 700MHz in PoE but over 1000MHz in other games.

Edit:I should note that I haven't changed any drivers or graphics settings for a long time nor have I made any adjustments to my GPU's clock speeds.

Actually I think I may have fixed it. Nvidia control panel had PoE set to "Optimum Power" instead of "Maximum Performance." After switching to the latter everything seems smooth again.
Try disabling the games sound effects in the games Production_config.ini (Games config file)

https://www.reddit.com/r/pathofexile/comments/ei3d1u/performance_tip_you_can_actually_reap_the_nosound/

This thread can show you how to go about it.
So from the thread, inside of the production_config.ini file, set the line
sound_effects_volume2=50
Change whatever number is there to false
The line should look like this
sound_effects_volume2=false

There's a good chance you may notice significant performance improvement while sound effects are disabled. Please post back with your results.
Note: Turning the sound effect volume slider in the games sound settings doesn't provide the same effect, as the game still renders the sound effects, just at 0 volume.

I'm suggesting this since I notice you mention you run an Nvidia graphics card.

This thread is related to why sound is causing an issue with nvidia users. If you notice improved performance after disabling sound effects, try the fix in this thread and turn up your sound effects again.

Do you know if turning down the sound channels has helped anyone?
