Scourge and POE Lore - some interesting theories

Spoilers ahead for those who want to avoid such.







Ok, So the one NPC who gives you the blood crucible is vaal and connected to chaos. And it appears Wraeclast has gone Marvel Multiverse, and that the NPC has said in all the Wraeclasts (other than yours so far), the demons have taken over. The one place where it didn't, was where High Templar Venarius lives as a ghost (Synthesis League), and he has kept the demons at bay, but if you look at the dialogue from Synthesis league, you know he does it by utterly mind controlling EVERYONE.


So, here is where it gets fun and where my speculation comes in.

For starters, I think this road is very clever - effectively every league we've ever played in POE then is an ALTERNATE version of Wraeclast. What this also hints at is that the Atlas of Worlds is a way to effectively jump between these alternate worlds.

Here's something else - Venarius wasn't the only one who saw doom coming.

Our boi Einhar ALSO has been saying for the longest time that the land is dying and the end is coming, and is all about surviving it. What if he ALSO knows about the coming demon scourge?

Let's take it one further - what if, with all his blood rituals to the first ones, in each and every version of Wraeclast, it is in trying to avoid the oncoming doom that Einhar accidentally UNLEASHES the scourge? Sort of a self-fulfilling prophecy? Just an idea.

Also, consider that the person who gave you the blood crucible is not only vaal in nature, but another agent of the god Chaos, effectively.

We know from the Trial Master that Chaos can see into this multiverse, and the Trial Master knows of alternate versions of you, some who win, some who lose, some who die.

Think about it - the Trial Master is subjecting exiles in the multiverse NOT affected by the scourge at the same time to these trials. Why? Well, we know for Chaos, variety is the spice of life, and how dull and predictable would it be if mindless demons took over every multiverse?

I would imagine for Chaos, that would be VERY boring indeed.

So it IS possible for the Trial Master to be looking for a suitable agent to save at least some of the wraeclasts from destruction, and now Chaos has sent another agent to allow you to get a taste of the threat directly because you have now been CHOSEN.

As to where this all leads, and how the elder, shaper, and conquerors and maven all fit in, as well as the Beyond, breachlords, etc - I got a feeling you have multiple parties who still have designs for wraeclast (think a gor version of Game of Thrones).

We still have Sin out there (is HE connected with the scourge?), Innocence in exile, and the god of Madness from Delirium still at large, we still don't know much about the First Ones or their plans, and we've heard mention of Hinekora as well. And will Kalandra show up, and who is he/she?

I just think its interesting that as we get closer to POE 2, some of these loose threads are actually being woven back in, in such a smart way.

If they can pull it all off by the time POE2 finally hits - man, that will be impressive....
