What does "Defend" mean in PoE

Hello!

I was looking at the Armour and Energy Shield mastery and I see the "Defend with 120% armour while not on low energy shield" Does this just mean I have 120% increased armour while I'm not on low energy shield? I'm assuming it is but just want to clarify as I haven't come across the wording "defend" before in poe.

I think with the mastery, if you have 10k armour it is treated as 12k armour against hits.
