The tainted orbs gave me a suggestion idea for corrupted items
Previously it's been that if an item is corrupted then that is it. It can't be changed any more except for the sockets. But the tainted orbs, including tainted exalted orb, might suggest that it does not have to be that way. I'm talking about re-corrupting, where the order of corruption would not matter.
So we have Vaal orbs, Einhar beastiary recipe and the Temple corrupts that come up to my mind. Each of these have been finite, in a way that once done it cannot be done again. But if we could, then we can, for example: #1 Use a Vaal orb on a corrupted item again in hopes of getting the implicit what we want with another chance to brick it. The same with the Temple corruption: another chance to change the implicits, or to gain white sockets, or another chance to poof. #2 Add a superior quality to an item through Einhar to improve our defenses, no matter if it is already corrupted or not. Regarding re-corrupting gems: It would need a risk, but besides having a chance for the gem to change to a random gem or an added poof chance after corruption I can't come up with anything else. Tainted Vaal Orb incoming.
Honestly, these tainted orbs are something I really don't get. They don't seem to make any sense from a game design perspective. I always thought part of the appeal of Vaal Orbs is that they remove items from the item pool. Now we get a chance to improve them after the fact. Why? Also, the players to benefit from this most are those that are rich, as most players don't concern themselves with corrupting items, or modifying them (with orbs that will probably be pretty rare and expensive). But yeah, we urgently needed more currency items. Remove Horticrafting station storage limit.

I hope Tainted Vaal Orbs are not coming as I feel the Vaal Orbs are already kinda tainted even if it is not mentioned. Even if recorrupting items would not be allowed, I hope the Vaal Orb at least would be allowed to be reused on a corrupted item.
The Tainted Orbs are one form of a gamble, which is what Chris Wilson likes. Even if you do not have many of them you can still use the few you have effectively. They are probably even designed in a way that spamming them will result in more of the negatives than positive effects, making them effective only when a corrupted item is near perfect or usable. For example a great corrupted item dropped, but it has 6 sockets and 5 links. Using a tainted fusing orb is not the same as using an untainted one, as it will by its description either add or remove a link. No rerolling links. By this logic a single tainted fusing orb will either make it a 6 link or brick it, unless lucky with the further ones. This would effectively remove items from the item pool. As for their rarity, I think Chris mentioned their drop chance is equal to the untainted ones. At least for the tainted jewellers, fusings and chromatic. But they are limited to the Scourge league mechanic. |
