[3.16] Lazy Lacerator - Half Block Gladiator

I have updated the skill tree for 3.16, I won't be starting with this build so I likely won't be updating it any more throughout the league, but I wanted to update it to what I would likely run if I was to play it for anyone that was interested. Block got nerfed a bit, but armour got buffed, this should come out fairly similar to before with how much armour the build has.

Do you hate moving out of stuff? Do you hate having to use Flasks? Do you like bleed damage? Then keep reading!

I've designed this build to have enough tank to do all the content in the game if you're a bad player with an old PC like me. Bleedsplosions are a fun mechanic and the gear for the build is relatively cheap, but you can scale it as far as you want.

Have killed all bosses with this build.

If you have any questions just ask :)

tl;dr Just give me the PoB

1. Pros and Cons

Beginner friendly can be played in trade or SSF leagues and very easy to gear.
Flasks are only situational, you don't need to get RSI to play this build.
Can be played with only 2 buttons, Leap Slam + Lacerate.
Don't need to constantly dodge everything; between Max Block, 5.5k+ hp and 7k armour (14k with flask) you have a good amount of physical mitigation. Add-on Temp Chains, Immortal Call and healing on block and you can tank most content.

Not hardcore viable. Block is great for most things, but can't stop a 1-shot. White mobs in this game 1-shot you sometimes.
Not a speed clear build. Lacerate is slow and even picking up a lot of attack speed from the tree it only gets near 3 attacks/sec. Of course, this is more than enough to maintain 8 stacks of bleed.
Physical Reflect is a pain.

4. Gear explained

Video guide: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A_-VaQQs7LQ
I will list the stats to look for on gear in order of importance. Top = most important.

Trade Search: https://www.pathofexile.com/trade/search/Delirium/kWbd7Kjh5
Armour base
40% increased Lacerate Damage
Lacerate deals X to X added Physical Damage against Bleeding Enemies
(increased damage is slightly better)
+10% Area of Effect craft(QoL)
Physical Damage taken as Fire craft(survival)

Body Armour:
Armour base (Astral Plate is nice, but not needed and more expensive)
+6% Chance to Block Attack Damage (Body Armour unveil, generic)
Resists (the more resists you get here the cheaper your rings will be)

Trade Search: https://www.pathofexile.com/trade/search/Delirium/YyaWDpOiY
If search comes back empty, spam alts on a Hunter base to get Life + Physical Damage over Time Multiplier then regal and craft attack speed.
Hunter Armour base (Spiked Gloves do not increase bleed dps)
+13-15% Physical Damage over Time Multiplier (most important)
10%+ Attack Speed (apply bleeds faster, leap slam faster)
+X - X Physical Damage to Attacks (works for bleeds)

Belt of the Deceiver:
Using this for the "You take 30% reduced Extra Damage from Critical Strikes". The only thing I was really dying to was 1-shots from rares. This is effectively 30% more HP vs Crits, very strong.

Trade search: https://www.pathofexile.com/trade/search/Delirium/Mykwkp5fJ
Armour base
25% + Movement Speed
Cannot Be Frozen (Boots unveil, Rin) (use Heat flask before this) (1ex craft cost)
0.5% of Damage Leech as Life and Mana if you've killed recently (You can get rid of the leech on the tree for more HP if you want, I don't bother)

Amulet, The Anvil:
Anvils are all the same, just grab any and anoint Growth and Decay on it.

Trade Search: https://www.pathofexile.com/trade/search/Delirium/9aQ92v8hK
You need to get a lot of resists here, but they are also a good source of damage.

Adds X - X Physical Damage to Attacks

You can craft these yourself with a Steel/Iron ring base and Screaming Essence of Contempt, but if you're in a trade league check the trade site first, there are great bargains to be had for less than 10c.

3.10 Hunter base is no longer good for Axes. Still use corroded fossils though.
Elder base Trade search: https://www.pathofexile.com/trade/search/Delirium/24PJBVjhk
ilvl 83 Elder Royal Axe base (highest average hit since AS doesn't help bleed we use this)

Axe comparison image: https://imgur.com/7xKcvY3

+(51–59)% to Damage over Time Multiplier for Bleeding from Hits with this Weapon [Elder base axes]

% Increased Physical Damage
Adds X to X Physical Damage
% to Quality
% Increased Damage with Bleeding
% Increased Attack Speed (QoL: does not increase DPS but can apply bleeds faster)

I ended up having to craft my own Axes, getting the DoT Multiplier mod isn't too hard unless you're really unlucky.

To do this I used: Corroded Fossil + Jagged Fossil

You can add in Serrated, but that dilutes the pool with Attack Speed, Crit Chance, Accuracy and other attack modifiers we don't really want.

Trade search: https://www.pathofexile.com/trade/search/Delirium/vy4MgzWFE
Shaper Shagreen Tower Shield
Recover % Life on Block
Block % (if you get enough block % here you might not need it on Body Armour or Amulet)

One Jewel with Corrupted Blood cannot be inflicted on you

Basically, you want to get life here and as much damage as you can. Here are a few searches for bleed jewels:

Corrupted Blood search: https://www.pathofexile.com/trade/search/Delirium/DJLnV5VC5 (unless you want to run a Staunching Flask, get one of these)

10c Jewel search: https://www.pathofexile.com/trade/search/Delirium/rbXay0rHQ (click the Sum: field to sort the gems by dps)

Endgame Jewel search: https://www.pathofexile.com/trade/search/Delirium/bVXDy32HL (click the Sum: field to sort the gems by dps)

Lvl 1:
Double Strike (beach)
Chance to Bleed support (beach), link with Double Strike
Lvl 4:
Ancestral Call (Mercy Mission side quest), link with Double Strike.
Puncture (Break Some Eggs quest) (replace Double Strike)
War Banner
Lvl 8:
Life Gain on Hit, link with Reckoning
Lvl 12:
Lacerate (replace Puncture), link with Maim and Chance to Bleed
Lvl 16:
Herald of Purity
Flesh and Stone
Lvl 18:
Melee Physical Damage, link with Lacerate

After that just transition to the end-game setup. E.G. Replace Flesh and Stone with Pride, Replace Maim with Brutality, etc.

Just grab whichever Sword you can, when you get your first Blacksmith Whetstone, get a level appropriate sword and sell White Sword + Blacksmith Whetstone + Magic or Rare Rustic Sash. Once you get Lacerate, switch to Axes. You want to do this about every 10-15 levels to keep your damage at a good place while levelling. Once you get enough Blacksmith Whetstones you can make it 20% before doing the vendor recipe. Other than that just try to keep resists above 50 and get the sockets you need (tons of red).

8. Tips

There are a few annoying map modifiers that I want to mention here. They all *can* be done, but I generally roll over them so I don't have to use flasks or take longer to do the map.

Reduced chance to Block (gotta use Rumi's to get block up, that's an extra button, f that)
Chance to avoid bleed (just makes the map take longer)
Vulnerability (you can keep your Sulphur flask on cooldown the whole map, but I despise flasks)
Temp Chains (same as Vuln)
No Leech (you get Mana on block, but jumping into packs to get hit on purpose is tedious)

It isn't because you're smart, it's because you're wrong.

Hi - I don't understand why we take Cannibalistic Rite - none of our abilities cost life?

You are absolutely correct, that was my mistake because I imported an old build and didn't check all the nodes correctly. Just grab more life from the scion life wheel or Hearty instead for the life regen. I'll update the PoB! Thanks for pointing that out

Ok, bud gonna give it a go. Honestly I have like 7 leveled up toons now, and not one of them have felt smooth or good for this league. The damage is good, but man, when I hit that scourge even on T1 maps, just does not feel great. Looking for more of a tank. But dang, NO ONE is playing melee this league! Let's give this a go eh? Thanks for updating it, even though your not playing it. :)
