Weapon swap with empty slot

I've tried a hallow palm / dancing duo build this league and it's very fun, except for one super frustrating thing. Not being able to swap to my empty weapon slot for hallow palm. Sometimes, towards the end of a map, or more importantly, if something fucks up and my rampage ends, I'm stuck with a weapon in my hands and I can't swap it out. Instead, I have to run away, open my inventory tab, and manually click on the weapon swap.

I can't believe this is still a thing after all this time.

Am I missing an option or has this really been overlooked?

This isn't a bug so much as it's a badly implemented feature.

The general thought was, GGG doesn't want brand new players to press X and have no idea where their weapons went, so to safeguard against this players can only switch to a completely empty weapon set while their inventory is open.

The best workaround for this is to have a weapon you don't possess the stats to use (Mjolnir, Cospri, etc) in your main hand, because the game does allow you to press X to switch to an "empty" weapon slot if it's only empty because the item(s) in it have been disabled.

They really should make this something you can toggle in the menu, though, like auto-equip.

Yes, for this build, I have to make sure not to auto-equip items, as even gloves will screw me up.

I remember making a similar unarmed dancing duo build with doryani's fist like 3 years ago. I thought I had the same issue then but it was a while ago. I that time, they've expanded on this with hallow palm technique. Considering this has been a thing for so long, they really should make it a toggle and have it defaulted to "not swapping to unarmed weapon slot" to make sure new players don't mess up.

Ok, considering another guys post said it was a bug, and I couldn't remember this being a thing 3 years ago, I checked something out. Indeed, I can't swap to an empty slot. However, If I equip a pair of gloves (cancelling hallow palm), I can freely swap weapons, even after un-equipping the gloves. BUT, if I enter an new instance, like going from hide-out to a map, the issue returns and can resolve it by equipping/unequipping gloves.

So, I don't know what's up with this. Guess I'll have to carry around a pair of gloves.

So, thinking this was janky, I checked my dps, and after equipping/unequipping gloves, my dps goes down about 5%-6%. Definetly sometihng messed up here.
