Tips
Ok, man I wish I found this game earlier in the plague. Any how. I am always asking questions online, but since I am a noob, often I am ignored.
I choose to be a Ranger-Raider. Past games taught me, ranged is simply best. But everyone said get the Quil Rain with 6 links. Well, people want exhauled orbs. I have not landed one yet, I am in act 8 lvl 68. My question is: Best area to farm for the Quil Rain to drop. Best area to farm for Chaos Orbs. Mind you I am in Act 8. I think I need to better my gear before proceeding. thanks Last bumped on Sep 14, 2021, 1:44:12 PM

Quill rain is only good for a couple of niche builds anymore. I dont think its a good bow to build around as a new player.
And you are correct that range is king in this game but bow chars are much harder to initially gear than caster chars since casters scale off gem level and you get that naturally by playing the game. I wont go to much in the weeds here though. Ive always thought screwing up your first few chars is a better way to learn the game than following a guide blindly. |

Hi,
There's no way of target farming a Quill Rain, as far as I know. The best way would be to buy one, of course. Other than that, you can farm a certain divination card ("Hunter's Resolve"), that drops in "The Riverways" in act 6. That card can be turned in for a random unique bow. But know this: A six linked Quill Rain is absolutely not the best choice for all bow users. If you're playing in standard, I can give you one if you'd like. Bring me some coffee and I'll bring you a smile. Last edited by Phrazz#3529 on Sep 14, 2021, 10:40:44 AM

Thanks,
Im on the PS4. Not sure if I screwed up my Character. But I been saving up to about 5 skill points before I apply them, so I can better map out my plan. I tend to go more towards the Chaos Damage. When I run into a boss immune to chaos, that tends to be an issue. When I figure it out, I will somehow post a link of my character build. Would love to have some guidance. I truly think this game is better than Diablo 2 and I played that game for years. The depth here is insane. INSANE. I did buy the currency tab. I am trying to learn if there is a tab so I am not having to fun back to town so often full of crap, hahaah. I grew very dependent of the Goldbrim Hat, the Immunities it has is why. But I scraped that this morning and trying to plan my strategy to obtain a 6 link bow. |

" You did :P Not to be mean, and we've "all" been there. But your first character (if you're not following a build) is most likely a screw-up. It's a learning process. And when I say "screw-up", I'm talking about being endgame capable. If your goal is to beat the acts, you have more freedom to do things your own, original way :) If you're playing on PS4, I can't help you out with items, I'm afraid :( Bring me some coffee and I'll bring you a smile. Phrazz, you may be shocked, I may have some good stashed stuff. I keep finding Unique Necormancer junk, I think the game wants me to be some sort of Zombie Raising Ranger, hahahaha

" One thing you'll eventually learn in this game is that uniques are not the most valuable items - in fact a lot of them are worth very little in terms of their trade value. Well-crafted rares are the best items in the game. Unlike other ARPGs, in PoE uniques are there for their unique mods, not because they're particularly powerful. A good endgame build will typically have just a few uniques, with the rest of items being composed of strong rare items. Anyway, a good resource to learn about the game is Engineering Eternity's Beginner's Guide series on Youtube. It's a few years old now, but most of the information in it still holds up (all except the parts about the endgame Atlas). Last edited by Exile009#1139 on Sep 14, 2021, 12:01:38 PM

I blew thru some junk testing out my crafting skills, I failed miserably.
But, I am not there yet, will be where I have to research that details. Being level 68 only, I am still learning the nuances. Game is epic though. I bought the tab for Currency, I have like 125 left, not sure what to but tab wise. Some said maps, again, not there yet. Is there a tree builder here, so I can build it and thus paste it here so you pros can see my build, give me pointers for future. I went ranger first, my next one will be either Mace and Shield or dual Mace Wielding. Once I get bored of letting off arrows. |

" Path of Building Community Fork is going to help you out a lot: https://pathofbuilding.community/ Also, your gem link setup is a bit weird. You have two main skill gems, Toxic Rain and Caustic Arrow. You should pick a main skill to go with and build around it. Read the gems tags, they will tell you the damage type and numbers. In this, it's chaos skills. I would personally do: Toxic Rain - Void Manipulation - Vicious Projectiles - Efficacy for your four-link. Toxic Rain, Void Manipulation, and Vicious Projectiles are all green gems, while Efficacy is a blue gem, so your links will need to be three green sockets and a blue socket, all linked together. If you need a visual I can 100% help out. This guide (https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/2866127) has a breakdown of the skill and explanations for a beginner. You don't have to follow it, but it will help ease you into the mechanics of the skill if you so choose it. The most important part is that Toxic Rain converts projectile damage into chaos damage, allowing you to scale it a bit differently. Whereas Caustic Arrow is pure Chaos Damage Over Time, which makes it effective for clearing mobs, but not clearing bosses without exalts worth of gear, which you won't have until you enter maps and start farming them. I suggest you get your resistances (fire, cold, lightning, don't worry about chaos unless you encounter a chaos enemy) up to 75% or above ASAP, because that will make your life a LOT easier. I also suggest that you get as much life on your gear as you can. There's a "trade" section on the top right, and it'll be overwhelming. What I want you to do is focus on the section called "stat filters" and "item category". The category will tell the filter what item you want your resistances on, and the stat filter will let you specify how much life you want on the item, and how much resistance you want on a piece of gear. You can feel free to overcap this, but generally three items with all three resistances (35%+ lightning, cold and fire) on them will be sufficient. Chaos resistances are harder to get, which is why you shouldn't worry about them until you're better at the game. Let me know which skill you like better, Caustic Arrow or Toxic Rain and I can help you understand what the skill does. Also, I wanted to let you know you can get a six-link in a chestpiece, which may be cheaper than getting it in a bow right now. I would also make your bow focus on chaos/projectile modifiers instead of elemental ones. You want things like: > generic #% damage > +gem levels to Toxic Rain > #% skill effect duration > #% increase attack speed > #% increase damage over time > #% increase chaos damage over time > #% to damage over time multiplier > #% to chaos damage over time multiplier > #% increase projectile damage (as stated in the gem itself) This is all explained in the guide, but it's going to be a lot of reading, so I want to prepare you. If you have any questions, let me know. I'm happy to help. "Bonus points if it is Scion/Witch because they have nice knees. Ranger has ugly knees and other characters are men so playing them would be homoerotic." - CAKE, 10/20/21
