Supercharged Ball Lightning and 4 Enhance and other things

So is rank 4 Enhance worth using with Divergent Ball lightning since Supercharge is pretty dope. Also is there danger that you overcap your ball lightning radius if you already have healthy amount of increased radius not giving more single target dps?

Also how does the Supercharge work with additional Ball lightning projectiles. Is the chance per projectile giving you bigger chance to throw supercharged one or?

Mathematically supercharged projectiles do 50% more damage. At 1% chance per 2 percentage points, that means L4 Enhance only provides 12% more damage (technically less since it stacks on top of the original quality). Even if socketed in a +3 weapon a L7 Enhance only provides 28% more damage.

That means you have to look at how much you value the 50% more AoE. Depending on your projectile speed and number of projectiles shot per cast will factor into the overlap. However, even on single target a projectile will reach the enemy sooner and leave later with a larger radius.

BL has a base radius of 18 units. Increasing the area increases the area, not the radius. For the sake of simplicity I'm going to assume you currently have 100% increase AoE.

Math
Area = πr²
Area = 324π
Area = ~1018 units squared

If you have 100% increased area of effect:

1018 * 2 = πr²
√(2036 / π) = r
r = ~25 units squared

If you factor in 50% more area:

1018 * 2 * 1.5 = πr²
√(3054 / π) = r
r = ~31 units squared

You can see that the Supercharged status adds 6 units to the radius (12 to diameter). Since BL travels at 48 units per second without any speed modifiers, a single projectile will stay in range for .25 seconds longer, giving 1-2 additional zaps. This averages out to 24% longer.

With all that said, assuming my rambling made sense and math is correct:

L4 Enhance
- 24% quality
- 12% more Supercharged balls
- Balls do 50% more damage and remain active 24% longer
- ~22% more damage

Note: L7 Enhance information is wrong and means the below information withing this spoiler is incorrect!
L7 Enhance
- 56% quality
- 28% more Supercharged balls
- Balls do 50% more damage and remain active 24% longer
- ~52% more damage

Note: Someone should really double check my math because something seems off. I also intentionally ignored the original quality which will affect the actual value. The actual value is also directly dependant on your increased AoE and projectile speed. I'm tired, posting this as is. If no one else comments I may come back later today and reanalyze everything...probably only to note how poor my math was.

Let me try to answer this question a second time without as much rambling. I'm going to look at this with you having 0%, 50%, and 100% increased AoE. I will average projectile speed instead of factoring in BL's strike interval (.15s).

Normal BL
0% AoE = 18 radius
50% AoE = 22 radius
100% AoE = 25 radius

Supercharged
0% AoE = 22 radius
50% AoE = 27 radius
100% AoE = 31 radius

This shows that Supercharged has an additional radius of 4-6 units from their regular counterparts. That translates to an enemy being in range 22-24% longer. The actual DPS multiplier will be dependent on projectile speed and how many additional strikes. The enemy will receive 1-2 additional strikes at a default speed, potentially 3 additional strikes at slower speeds.

20% Quality = 10% of balls
44% Quality = 22% of balls (11% more from 20%Q)
68% Quality = 34% of balls (22% more from 20%Q)

No Enhance = 5% more damage
L4 Enhance = 13.5% more damage
L7 Enhance = 27% more damage

I think that is correct...It's up to you if the reduced more multiplier from a different suppor gem is worth the increased area value.

Thanks for detailed answer!

Do you know how additional projectiles interacts with Supercharge?
Not first hand, but it should only roll once. All projectiles from a cast or none of them will be Supercharged. The same would go for Spell Echo: both or neither will be Supercharged.
