Vaal Ancestral Warchief and totem limit

Hi
I play consecrated path with new totem support. When i try put 2 slam totems (+1 from tree), 2 ancestral protectors (multiple totems) then when i try put one vaal warchief he repleaced my slam totem. This is normal? Vaal ancestral warchief have +1 to maximum totem.

+1 standard (for consecrated path totem)
+1 Ancestral Bond (for Consecrated Path totem)
+2 multiple totems support (for Ancestral Protector)
+1 Vaal Ancestral Warchief (and that replaced my slam totem)


Is it a bug or did I miss something?

Your global limit is 2 totems.

Ancestral Protector is supported by Multiple Totems so it's 2 + 2.

Vaal Ancestral Warchief have in-built +1 so it's 2 + 1.

Multiple Totems support gives +2 to maximum totems solely to the linked skill, not globally.

If you have Ancestral Bond AND you have NO Ancestral Protectors up (or more specifically, no skills that are using Multiple Totems Support), then this should work just fine.

As MonaHuna mentioned, maximum totems are local per totem type, so your Consecrated Path has maximum 2 totems, Ancestral Protector has maximum 4 totems, and Vaal Ancestral Warchief has maximum 3 totems. If I recall correctly, when a totem would exceed its totem limit, it unplaces the number of totems you try to place, so +1/-1 = 0 basically.

That means, if you have a total of 2 totems of any type up, then try to place Vaal Ancestral Warchief, you should be able to use Vaal Ancestral Warchief.

If you have a total of 4 totems of any type up, then try to place Vaal Ancestral Warchief: Vaal Ancestral Warchief sees you have 4 totems and placing 5th totem would go over 3 totem limit, so it places +1 Vaal Ancestral Warchief, and unplaces -1 of your oldest placed Totem, so it unplaces a Consecrated Path or Ancestral Protector totem, depending on when you placed them.
