What are those "resist" mods on mobs?
|
I am playing a pure cold build and seen some mobs with both "resist cold" and "resist element"
I have like 43% cold penetration but my damage is low like 10%? Why? Last bumped on Jul 28, 2021, 11:04:34 AM

" Presumably you are referring to excavations where you didn’t read what the remnant prefixes. I’d guess you either blew up “immune to cold damage” or multiple “30% less damage taken.” Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCfSWYPXd9prVxf5v_DoqtIQ

" This is actually 30% reduced damage taken, which is much, much, worse when stacked. Grab 4 of those and monsters will literally become invincible. 1 of those: you deal 70% of normal damage. 2 of those: you deal 40% of normal damage - this is less than half 3 of those: you deal 10% of normal damage - you must deal 1000% of your normal damage to deal the same amount of damage as a monster without that Remnant, AKA it is like Monsters have 900% more Life, Ward, and Energy Shield and reduce your leech by 90%> 4 of those: Monsters can't take damage. If you are referring to mods like "Resist Cold/Fire/Lightning/chaos/Element", it just means that specific mob has its cold/fire/lightning/chaos/elemental resistances above 0. If you manage to lower a resistance enough, the "Resist x" will turn into a "Vulnerable to x". So, if you cast a Conductivity on a "Resist Elemental Damage" mod, and that Conductivity is strong enough, you will see the "Resist Elemental Damage" mod goes away and it's replaced by "Resists Fire, Resistes Cold, Vulnerable to Lightning".
If you are referring to the new Expedition "Monsters are immune to X damage", it's exactly as it is written: the monster cannot be damaged by damage X. So, a Immune to Chaos monster is just like a CI character - cannot be damaged by Poison, Chaos DoTs and Chaos damage in general. This also means that if you somehow manage to pile up 5 Expedition Lockers with all 5 Invulnerabilities, congratulation - you just spawned 100 mobs that cannot be killed in any possible way. @adghar : while More and Less modifiers do stack together, Less Damage Taken is the only exception to this rule, and each source of Less Damage Taken is evaluated in succession. Having 4x 30% Less Damage Taken does not mean the monster can't be damaged. It's not 1 - (0.3*4) = 1 - 1.2 = -0.2 But rather 1 * 0.7 * 0.7 * 0.7 * 0.7 = 0.24 (0.7 being the % of damage taken). So, 4 30% will have the same effect as one "76% less damage taken". Which is still quite a lot, but not invincible |
|
"To what exactly Less Damage Taken is exception? It works just like all other More and Less multipliers. adghar has pointed out the mod has 30% reduced Damage taken, not less. Their math is correct. |

Huh, Reduced, eh? Then yes, sorry about that. It would indeed make them invincible.
Invulnerable Mobs. Just what the game needed... |
