Question: New Shader Bar & Performance
|
Note I am not having any issues per se, I am just posting this in curiosity and see if the community can fill in some details and perhaps enlighten everyone.
So the new engine improvements are out with the new graphs for determining bottlenecks. To do some tests I loaded up a delirious map with my CoC Volatile Dead build to see if I could get more info on why it performs so poorly in deli. I understand this is a jank build for performance, so I don't really expect the game to perform well with this build. After reaching some large packs both the CPU and Shader bar jump real high. Now the CPU bar makes sense, tons of calculations needing to do, but the shader bar is odd. " My SSD where the shader cache lives is my main OS drive which is a 1TB MP510 nvme. While this isn't the absolute fastest SSD on the market it is still very high tier. My question then is: what gives? Why is the shader appearing to be a bottleneck for performance? My PC specs for reference: cpu: i7-8700k oc@5ghz gpu: 1080 ti mobo: gigabyte z370 gaming 7 ram: 32gb ddr4 3600mhz CL18 ssd: corsair mp510 1TB nvme Last bumped on Oct 24, 2021, 5:37:01 AM

How full is your SSD? Their speed will drastically slow down the more you fill them up.
Run an actual read/write test on your drive to see how it's performing. |

SSD is about 50%, which shouldn't affect performance too much.
AS SSD benchmark shows: Type: Read: Write seq: 2860 MB/s: 2867 MB/s 4k: 68 MB/s: 161 MB/s 4k-64Thrd: 1959 MB/s: 2680 MB/s Acc. time: .088 ms: .023 ms |

while you have a very sweet setup and im kinda jelous for it, the answer should be obvious: its a very very bad optimzed game as of yet.
while i have not as good of a setup as you, and i also dont play such builds that are known to melt pcs^^ i can run 100% delrium t16 easily without and big drops below 30 fps as of right now. what seemed to have helped was A ofcouse my new pc but B wich surprised me even more, the complete reinstalling of everything. let me explain: lets travel back in time to 3.10 where people figured out when you go into the poe folder and change some soundsettings in the data files you got more fps, yes more fps via sound changes, dont ask why.... over time however more and more junk data piled up like for example these sound files or more specifc the whole settings ini thingy, they dont get uninstalled when new patches come. so in short, you can try and completle uninstall every single trace of poe from your system and then redownload it, it might improve performance. in the end however, i love the game alot realy, but its so unbeliveable disrespectfull of the developers to not optimize the game the slightest and then blame the enduser, us, for * bad * hardware. the best example i always pull for this is the systemreccomendations for this game : MINDESTANFORDERUNGEN: Betriebssystem: Windows 7 (SP1) oder Windows 8 Prozessor: x86-kompatibler Quad-Core, 2.6GHz Arbeitsspeicher: 8 GB RAM Grafik: NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 650 Ti oder ATI Radeon™ HD 7850 DirectX: Version 11 Netzwerk: Breitband-Internetverbindung Speicherplatz: 40 GB verfügbarer Speicherplatz EMPFOHLEN: Betriebssystem: Windows 10 Prozessor: x64-kompatibler Quad-Core, 3.2GHz Arbeitsspeicher: 16 GB RAM Grafik: NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1050 Ti oder ATI Radeon™ RX560 DirectX: Version 11 Netzwerk: Breitband-Internetverbindung Speicherplatz: 40 GB verfügbarer Speicherplatz Zusätzliche Anmerkungen: Eine SSD wird ebenfalls empfohlen i know its german but whatever, im sure you guys can figure out what is what, the first one is the minimum. now imagine someone realy shows up with such a spec... |

Yeah, it has some issues. A lot of which is just the scale at which PoE does things. Item drops need to be lowered, art from items on the ground removed, or something. Combine that with the number of server ticks and so on. Developing for the amount of crap happening can't be easy, especially considering it is probably all custom C++.
At the end of the day I understand that particular build will have performance issues. Sitting at close to 12 casts per second, 6 VD/6 Desecrate, with homing balls flying everywhere igniting things 100's of times per second or some such. My post was mainly to better understand what shader bar is telling me. |

Its a poe death patch, people posting on here with 2k+ rigs and dropping to below 60 fps. I'm ok with quiting the game but GGG not addressing the issue after over a week is virtue signaling to me they don't give a shit. We are not going to sit here and spam the forum so somebody can say clear your cache yada yada. You're "improvement patch" clearly has higher standards than a i7700 @ 5ghz and 2080 ti. Those 2 components together were over 2k and I will not be upgrading from a 4k$ total pc to play poe [Removed by Support]

The patch works alright for me at least with my small snippet of playing. Basically the same as previous patches. Just now we have a fancy graph to ponder.
To an extent I sympathize with GGG. As a software engineer myself I understand the difficulty in getting new features out, scaling them, and testing all the while tech debt looms in the background biting your ankles. Game development is particularly bad because not only are schedules rough, but when something goes wrong you get dumpsters full of hate mail. |

That shader bar goes to full and freeze my game even if i use ram-disk for shader folder.
