hypothermia with herald of thunder?

Hello

I'm trying to improve my autobomber, and see that most player use hypothermia
why?
Obviously to improve damage, but I don't see where the chill comes from, and if the damage is really better than other gems (empower, inspiration, etc.)

any help ?

Most gems provides More damage. Hypothermia differs because it gives Increased Damage Taken, just like a shock. Since HoT's thunders cannot shock, Hypothermia serves as a compromise: you get something that is like Shock in effect, but does not scale with non-damaging (shock) ailments effects. This is compensated by the defensiveness of the chill (I am thinking back to Bestiary to Molten Strike Aspect of Spider Assassins)

As from where the chill come from, you can rely on Skitterbots (which also provide Shock) or other supportive skill like Creeping Frost. The easies way to provide chill, however, would be either an Expedition's End or, more easily to achieve, a "Effect of non-damaging ailments" Cluster Jewel with Chilling Presence

Are you sure you aren't thinking of Bonechill Support?

Bonechill:

Hypothermia:

As you can see, Hypothermia makes no reference to "damage taken." It's simply More Damage against Chilled Enemies. It's a generic 39% more multiplier that works with any hit or ailment build that's able to reliably Chill enemies (as you mentioned - Skitterbots is a popular method nowadays, since it also grants Shock).

Yes Hypothermia's damage seems better and low mana multiplier also matters. Chill comes from CWDT - (Vaal) Cold Snap. It triggers constantly since we take bunch of damage from Strom Secret rings. Inspiration is also a decent option but have its cons.
ok, i figured out the cold snap or creeping frost were for hypothermia
i'm trying to figure out number in poe building, but its kinda hard
