Red dot on older characters selection screen, what is it and why?

I have around 6 to 8 characters with red dots in front of their name, I can not load them or veiw them in game or out of game on website. I deleted no characters on console and took a year break. These are the chars from around 2019-2020 june. Thank you for your time and game. Been playing since 2014 on and off on pc.

" if a char hasn't been used for a long time, their names gets released for other to use. This is per game design of GGG. You will properly have to contact GGG support about getting new names for them. Last edited by HanSoloDK#4843 on May 9, 2021, 5:31:41 PM

Wow really that not right to lock access to a persons characters just to release a name. Why not auto generate a suffix to the name to make then unique and accessible to me the user. Or at the very least allow me access to rename characters locked out like this through the account on the website. I care not for the name but the loadout i spent months collecting located and equipting on the characters. Thank you for your time and reply.

" Just to clarify a little - character names become available after a year of inactivity, to access those characters again you should be able to simply update their names. If the original name is still available you are welcome to re-name the character the same name, if another player has taken that name unfortunately you will need to provide a new one. Thank you for your reply, seems I posted in haste without even trying to log in my red dotted characters and found a character name change menu screen when I did. Guess I jumped the gun, was having flash backs to leagues that dotted characters at the end. Thanks again for your time and game.
