Starting Gem & First Quest Reward

Hi,
with the new starting gem which drops from the first zombie there is now some overlapping with the choices for the first quest reward, at least for the witch. Could it be changed so that instead of the fireball skillgem the zombie skillgem becomes a choosable reward for arriving at shore encampment? The Fireball gem-reward does not serve any purpose at this stage and I assume that this is the case for the other classes' starter gems as well (I did not get to check it yet). Actually, that "starting gem" you got? That was a random drop. You're not guaranteed any gems before you get to the shore encampment... but you might get lucky.

Yup you're now guaranteed a starting gem on the beach :) I think it's great, got old taking down Hillock with basic attack.
But I agree that for each class, at least that gem should be removed from the first quest reward pool. |

well speaking for the witch at least, take the overlapping fireball gem reward and make a cold resist ring with it so you don't have to buy one if your unlucky and don't get one to drop.

If people need to sacrifice their very first skill gem-reward for a resistance-ring, the damage of the mobs is off and needs to be adjusted (though, as a witch, you can mitigate the ice damage dealt by the quest-boss easily while killing him with ranged attacks/spells).
Beside that you could even trade another gem reward for the ring, so your suggestion does not solve the issue but shows a way to deal with it. Last edited by Victo#0265 on May 11, 2012, 6:06:01 AM

I think all the of the Act 1 gem rewards still need more work.
As it is now, Ranger gets Burning Arrow from the zombie. Then Burning Arrow again for Hillock, and then again for Medecine Chest. Where is Elemental Hit? Bring it back damnit! |
