Old PCs / Laptops are the go?
Easter is coming so I had to take some time off in order to spend some time with my family.
Where I am now I have a laptop, which I have not been using for a long time, it is about 10 years old? or a bit more? Not sure. However, I have decided to install PoE on it. Done and done, went into the game, logged in, etc and before my eyes there it was, a dream become reality, the game was and is working with 60 FPS( i have a 15" 60Hz Display ) constantly, no frame drops, no delay spikes, nothing... Smooth as silk. Did ultimatums, tested maps, tested delirium, tested a bunch of stuff for a few hours. My PC back home can not do this and it is close to top-specced( Ryzen 5 3600, RTX 2060super ). The specs that I have on this Laptop are i7-3630QM 2.4Ghz 4 core paired with a GT 750m, the difference is VERY visible between the 2 rigs. And this setup just took the prize, playing PoE never felt so good in all my years since the performance started degrading league after league. By the way, game and zones take about 0.5s to load on an HDD on this, compared to 0.5s on an SSD on the PC mentioned above... I was joking with my friends that we need to buy older PCs in order to play the game perfectly and apparently it is true. This laptop could be found for about 100$ or even less judging its age and specs. PS: GGG_Staff, if the thread is in the wrong place please just move it, don't delete it... That CPU of yours is still kinda decent for a laptop one if you ask me - some modern ultrabooks have lower frequencies, and i doubt poe is able to utilize more than 4 cores effectively. Combined with lower screen resolution, it's quite enough if you tweak the settings a bit.
Before 3.14 i was able to run that game on a calculator as ancient as phenom 920, 8g ram, 660gt GPU. Windowed mode and low settings of course, but somewhat stable ~30-40fps. "Path of Exile's engine is currently modern, lean and fast." - Chris Wilson, September 19th, 2019

" Regardless it is still very weird like the difference is huge, from PC to this laptop. |

Very important question. What version of Windows was you old laptop on?

" It is very possible that the new, clean system is what helped you get this performance in the game. I recently did a reinstall as well on my PC as I was getting the same janky frame drops and issues with textures. After trying everything with launch options and options in-game, even Vulkan, nothing would work. After a full format and reinstall of Windows, I installed POE from from the website, not Steam and it's been running like a dream. I have no idea what logical explanation this could have, but I'll take it at this point because performance has been dreadful lately, no matter what your specs are. Just for the record: Gigabyte X570 AORUS Elite AMD Ryzen 7 3700X Corsair Vengeance 64GB DDR4 3600 Asus ROG STRIX RTX 2060 Super 8GB Samsung 970 EVO 1TB NVMe Carry on my waypoint son, there'll be peace when maps are done.
Lay your portal gem to rest, don't you die no more. 'Cause it's a bitter sweet symphony this league. Try to make maps meet, you're a slave to the meta, then you leave. |

I can seriously run PoE on my Dell 7420 Rugged extreme which has on board video. Not great and lowest resolution and everything off but it runs. Sometimes as I sit by my pool I play with it's 1000 nits outdoor display but in house PC runs way better.

Settings matter a lot since GGG has been messing with the engine.
For years I've run max settings and stayed frame cap 100hz at 3440x1440p. They started these janky changes with 3.13 and my CPU was being hammered to 100% while idle in my hideout with DX11 for no reason. I switch to Vulkan and it was fine again. CPU doesn't go over 70% usage spike on any of it's cores btw. GPU is my bottle neck. Then in 3.14 I was noticing my frames were dropping to 80 or so. I turned Shadow + GI quality to Low from High and back to 100FPS. Keep in mind, my setting haven't been changed in 2+ years. This is all Solo since groups run like trash with 100% delirium and all the bells going. Point being, at this point there are just basic settings that aren't working correctly now. API, Shadows, ect.
