360° projectile trigger build?
|
Hi there
I'm not too knowledgeable when it comes to PoE, so I thought maybe some of you might be able to help me figureing out how to get my build idea working. I haven't gone too deep into the details of it, but the basic gist is to have a main skill and any type of projectile to be triggered in a circle. This trigger should have a very very low cooldown. First I was thinking of cast when damage taken, however that comes with a CD of 0.25 secs and needs you to take far too much dmg in order to be efficient for dealing dmg. Cast on Melee Kill is downright bad I suppose, since my projectiles would never proc while bossing (or at least not while the boss is alive). Cast while channeling too has an internal cooldown too high (0.35-0.45 secs i think). So I suppose the best solution would be to use CoC, even tho it comes with max. 6 procs per second. However this gem requieres me to use an attack skill to trigger a spell, so for example I can't use Arc as my main skill to trigger the projectiles. It also requieres me to have high critchance, preferably 100% I suppose. I have read that assassin easily can get that, but what about other classes? I would love to play as a templar once, but maybe that's not a good choice for this build. Or are there any other / better ways of making this work? Thank you in advance Last bumped on Apr 14, 2021, 6:57:44 AM

Sire of Shard is a quite reknown staff that gives +4 projectiles to the skills inside it, while also firing those projectiles in a nova (the 360° you are looking for). A very common way to use them is to use a Freezing Pulse totem, or a Flame Totem inside it, in order to turn them into good AoE clearer while saving you the hassle of being in the center of a very angry and oneshotting group of mobs or - perish the thought - in the middle of a pack of Porcupines.
In order to have something trigger the faster possible, you will have to go with Cast on Crit, which in turn requires an attack. Moreover, it also requires you to build up some accuracy, or equip something that gives you Hits can't be Evaded. Since you are supposed to be a mage, you won't build up too much accuracy from your equip, so either you find a Lycosidae or benchcraft this in your main weapon after you manage to defeat Vagan enough times (Resolute Technique can't be chosen since it makes you never being able to crit). And, of course, having high crit, but it's implied you are going for as much crit as possible. If you still wish to retain your mage identity to a certain extent, you can go with a Cast while Channeling. Yes, you are still whirling everywhere like a frigging Roomba on all of Wraeclast (Cyclone), but you will cast spells regardless of you hitting the enemy. This comes with 2 downside: > CwC's cooldown is higher than CoC > CoC always target the enemy you've hit, CwC follows your cursors. This can be bad for directional spells, but if you aim for a Nova, then you might still salvage this point. Be wary that you may still need to go with Cyclone with a CoC asset because so far it's the faster hitting skill that we have - fast enough, in fact, that some of its attacks are too fast even for the Server if you build enough AtkSpd. The only other alternative I can think about is Poet's Pen, which casts spells inside it with mere attacks - forcing you to a 3L as your main spell (4L since Poet also gives you +1-4 levels to gems inside it), but ridding you of a way to explode projectile novas (unless you want to go Circle of Slaughter + Ethereal Knives). Spellslinger is a new support that can still allow you to get the "poet's pen" feeling even without them - but forces you to use wands and accounting their damage in your spells (meaning your spells will most probably have some physical damage in them). This would still rid you of a chance to trigger a nova of projectile which is, as implied above, only doable with Circle of Slaughter only for EK and with Sire of Shards |

" Thanks for replying. I don't need to play mage, I just would have liked for once to play a templar. But playing the build overall is more important than what class to me. I recently have played a cyclone build, and while it's very chill it's also very boring. So i'd rather go with something else. Let's say I go with Assassin, I try to stack AtkSpeed and Accuracy and CritChance. I now could use Ring of Blades Jewel and Sire of Shards together and utilize EK, no? Will a triggered EK gain both the projectiles from SoS AND RoB, 5+4 projectiles? I could use frenzy as attack skill and gain additional atkspeed. Would that not work? The question is, how can I make ethereal knives hit hard enough to be able to make it a bosser. |

Trigger builds are in a very good spot nowadays. You can easily google any Youtube video and find plenty of CoC, CwC or spellslinger builds that showcase easy downing of Sirus A8~9 or other end-game content.
There are also plenty of evidence of non-assassin builds having success with CoC such as this elementalist here. She uses Tornado Shot to trigger. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d8FJLr14t5Y The inquisitor and ascendant also can probably achieve that. The key thing is to have good understanding of what makes CoC great. It's a combination of reading helpful guides like this, https://www.reddit.com/r/pathofexile/comments/e5pyr8/the_cyclone_cast_on_critical_strike_cooldown/ and playing the build yourself. It was only after I played such builds that it made me realize how important is accuracy and capped crit chance is, because Barrage only rolls once per action. You don't want to rush to a mob pack and spray your barrages with an unlucky streak of non-crits. That just feels terrible. For CwC, there are great builds like this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r-UHR6Dl2YA However, insisting on a 360 projectile build will severely limit your options because Sire of Shards is the only item that can help you achieve that, forcing you to build around it. Options that don't require that unique staff are Ethereal Knives and Spark with their respective threshold jewels. The biggest problem of spreading the aim in such manner is you are sacrificing your single-target potential. Last edited by jeerinho#7997 on Apr 14, 2021, 6:59:15 AM

You... could go with both Ring of Blades and Sire of Shard, yes, but you just need one of those in order to have an EK nova.
As for how to increase the damage of EK enough, there are several ways. Just boost physical damage by using spellslinger + wand, fully convert it into another damage or give it extra damage scaling with physical, or focus on making those EK deal damage via Poison rather than hits. Or, take some time between one EK flurry and the other to animate the Blades they leave with an Animated Weapon spell and use them as minion. There are some possibilities. Don't know if EK can be made actually competitive, but there are possibilities. And, frankly, if there were other movement channeling skills around there other than Cyclone (no, Charged Dash doesn't count), people would use that. The one thing that makes channeling skills bad is that they force the caster to stand still. Which is a no-no in this game. EDIT: Right, I've forgot about Spark and Hazardous Research. You may think about a many years old build with Vaal Glacial Hammer + Vaal Spark. I wonder if that combo still works nowadays... Last edited by Maxtrux#0762 on Apr 14, 2021, 6:58:38 AM
