Maven's Worse Than Sirus lol

The fight is an absolute clusterfuck of projectiles, attacks, and gigantic slowing degen pools. Explosions and what you're supposed to do about them the first time through are telegraphed so badly that Silver from Sonic 06 would ask to tone it down. Degens aren't removed from the arena during most transitions and the rotating beams just completely removing recovery.. well they may as well just kill you outright. There is nothing fun about this fight.
This isn't a bullet hell game. This isn't an mmorpg. This is an arpg that's supposed to be the spiritual successor to D2. Please start making bosses that fit the game. Last bumped on Mar 1, 2021, 12:42:04 AM

You're supposed to place the degen pools strategically hence why they apparently deal zero damage on explode. Only the secondary degen effect has damage.
Having finally done the fight myself, I find the projectiles in the early phases are more annoying than the coil beams at the end. I always have two life flasks and they are still functioning despite touching the coil beams. The fight is huge DPS check. There are builds on Youtube killing her as soon as the coil beams on the last phase appear, hence skipping the last memory game altogether. |

Thanks for the "get more dps 4head" comment. Very helpful.

I didn't say it was a good thing.
Sirus and Mastermind fights didn't have prevalent degen pools but they got more complains than the other bosses that did have them such as Cortex, Uber Elder, Shaper. Do you suggest they make more boss fights like Sirus and Mastermind? EDIT: Sirus and Mastermind fights have them but in the case of Sirus' storms, they don't double up as the fight takes longer. Mastermind's degen are at the corners which you won't get in the way of the fight that much. Last edited by jeerinho#7997 on Feb 28, 2021, 11:40:05 PM

" It’s no use! But seriously, this game HAS become a bullet hell. And that’s not fun for me, nor is it what I signed up for. We're all in this leaky boat together, people. Last edited by demon9675#2961 on Mar 1, 2021, 12:16:58 AM

Fair enough.
It is tricky, yes. Degen pools aren't necessarily a bad thing, but with how big, long lasting, and intense the slow it creates is, they feel tuned too aggressively to kill the player rather than challenge them. If they were smaller, there could be some leeway in placement so that later phases are less nightmarish for just one accident near the center. If the degen was lower or the slow was removed, then it would be easier to react and play around the degen if you get too much of it. If they are cleaned up after each phase so you're not punished as much for having a tough Maven phase. It's not just the degen anyway, but rather the visual mess of overlapping mechanics on top of having to watch out for one hit kills and debuffs and unintuitive mmorpg-esque mechanics that may as well instantly kill the player. What makes fights like Uber Elder or some of the Conquerors great to me is that they have simple mechanics that challenge/kill the player organically rather than killing the player because they failed a memory game or didn't bait a homing storm in a specific direction before juking around it. As a side note, I don't think Mastermind, Synthesis bosses or Cortex are particularly great fights, but compared to Maven and Sirus, they may as well be grade A work. Fun fact is if you have enough dps you can brute force Maven fight because you have enough portals to kill her. Keeping degen stacked in middle is easy.
