About Brutal Restraint
i watched a youtube video where a guy shows his brutal restraint over some passives that i, too, have allocated. his bonuses were different than mine (if i socket my brutal restraint), his timeless jewel range was bigger, his dex bonus to small passives higher. funny thing is my brutal restraint rolled a higher number than his. so.. how come?

I'd wager the Timeless Jewel number is not really to be considered as a magnitude, but rather the ID of a "seed" of possible modifiers, with the variance being all of those possible combinations in range. It does not mean a "perfect roll" jewel has the best objectively possible combinations of all mod.

strange.. indeed, i thought the number is linked to how good the jewel is, and i got this info also from a youtube guy who seemed to know what hes talking about. the thing is, from what ive seen, they all say "heres my timeless jewel, its over this or that number", like the higher the number the better the jewel. lets say the added notable bonuses are random, but then it would be only logical that the dex bonus per small passive and the range of the jewel are best when the jewel number is highest. when in fact, it isnt so.

While it is logical that higher number should imply better outcomes, I don't feel like it is what's happening in the case of Timeless Jewel. Note, however, that I am following a hunch - having statistics of different Timeless Jewels and their effect can allow you to put some maths in those feeling, making them a reality - or at least making it perceived like so.
Also, "better" is subjective. Perhaps there are some weighting X and Y where: > lower that X means good small boost but low notable boost > higher than Y means good small boosts and good notable boost > Between X and Y means low small boosts but good notable boost Once again, spreadsheets helps. In PoE, if you want to know something about the game, you have to do the research yourself - Devs will tell you little more than nothing on how these gears turn. |
