Explody/crit chest crafting help

Hi guys,

I've purchased a -15 mana chest for my cyclone build but I was wondering if I could upgrade it with either a:

- attacks have x.x% to crit chance
- enemies you kill explode, dealing x% phys damage

The chest:


I found following video showing how to do this with an awakener's orb:

In the video it shows however that the stats on the astral plate chest change after applying the orb on it. Does this always happen? I really don't want to loose the stats it currently has.

Awakener's Orb is a currency item. Using it on an item destroys the item, and allows the player to apply the item's influence to another item of the same item class. The second item is then reforged as a rare item with both influence types and new modifiers.

Thank you, that's very clear...
I know there are 2 crafting recipes which say:

- prefixes can't be changed
- suffixes can't be changed

Can both be applied to the chest before hand, locking the roll and then adding the influence? Or at the very least either the suffixes or prefixes..
Or is this just one big RNG gamble which can fck up the item?
If so, man, GGG should change it.. It's not like this kind of gear is cheap
