Is socket crafting deterministic, or am I just extremely unlucky?
|
I have a 6-link corrupted chest with t1 life and a ton of resist that I need 3 red, 2 blue, and 1 green. It's a strength chest, so I tried the crafting bench recipe: at least 1 blue, thinking that since it's cheaper than the others, I could just spam it and the at least 1 green one until I got what I wanted. Long story short, I got extremely tilted and spent all of my vaal orbs(~150) trying various socket crafts and didn't roll a single socket color other than red on the other sockets. For example, when I did: at least 1 blue, it would always result in 1 blue socket, and 5 red sockets. I don't have the craft: 2 green, and 1 blue yet, I'm wandering around aimlessly in delve trying to find it, but at this point I might just sell the it and keep grinding with my tabula until I can get a decent chest. I just want to know if I just got unlucky? (Totally fine with that) or if it actually did what it was supposed to do, which is kind of frustrating that the description wasn't more clear

Just bad luck.
In general, you should always use the Vorici calculator: https://siveran.github.io/calc.html Since the item is corrupted, you would have to use the bench, and the 1B recipe is the lowest average expected cost. (Chrom spam is slightly cheaper but wouldn't work here, and you can still have bad luck with it.) Looks like 1B would take 40-60 chromatics, on average, depending on the STR requirement, but it can take a lot more than that with bad luck. Everything is rng. FYI, I think the 3-color recipe will be in your first Vaal Outpost. This is a good place to find recipe locations: https://www.reddit.com/r/pathofexile/comments/a4njpc/recipe_locations/ Last edited by GreyLensman#5323 on Jan 26, 2021, 3:47:45 PM

" you don't need reddit for this, just go to your crafting-bench and move your mouse over the mod in the "Undiscovered" section. Will tell you the location. For the 3 color one it says "Ruined Chamber" so you can just go to your delve map and use the search at the bottom to highlight the notes. Last edited by lug_up#4408 on Jan 26, 2021, 4:19:10 PM

Dang I didn't realize you could just search "ruined chamber." That's a game-changer
