The Maven Is The Most Important Addition PoE has Ever Seen...
and here is why.
It may not be immediately evident, because for years and years we have been conditioned to gauge reward by actual loot drops and powerful items, which maybe the maven drops eventually but I personally am still on my 4-5 way fights. although FAT LOOT is fantastic and we all love to crack that power ceiling, the Maven is in a league all her own. 100% ensured rewards... universally impactful regardless of build, playstyle, ascendancy... The Maven's reward structure DRAMATICALLY alters the way players interact with the atlas while also giving players flexible options to alter their personal atlas in ways that will ultimately dramatically increase rewards for time spent as well as increase the probability that informed and considerate players will be able to acquire build enabling and or defining items. here are two cool scenarios that character progression has never really seen before the introduction of the maven that are dramatically impactful (or were for myself). Lex Proxima offers players the option to inject 20 possesed monsters and monster guards into that regions maps. completely accidentally and with only one watch stone I rolled a sextant onto the region... possesed foes drop a scarab... then the rituals of that first map were also tormented rituals. by the end of the next 3 maps I had well over 30 scarabs and prior I was completely impoverished. just like that, my days of wanting were over and so began the era of having. Tirn's End: A Bleed Bow Character that is not a Gladiator lacks a lot of bleed related options on the passive tree. In my attempts to construct a functionally superiors bleed bow character as a Deadeye I needed to localize and prioritize bleed/physical/and projectile related damage as well as damage over time multiplier which means I needed loads of cluster jewels. after completing just a single Maven Invitational every subsequent map ran in this area now had an exaggerated chance to contain a delirium mirror. As if the game files themselve could sense my desire, They offered me up a massive map with incursions breaches and rituals galore... Phys dot multi medium clusters were not far from reach. An unintended synergy, my Simulacrum splinters were stacking and nearly double their previous rate and the deli orbs were raining... the 9Ex Assailium... A Farce. SSF for the informed is simpler than ever before. THE ONLY OTHER SURE THING IN ALL OF POE IS UBER LAB think about it... Its a really big deal and I just wanted to get out here and say... The Folks at BSG knocked it out of the park with this one... For so many reasons Thank you this is great <3 I have never felt further from what I know and love Last bumped on Jan 22, 2021, 2:29:52 AM

I agree completely.
I am frustrated to be still juggling watchstones, but on topic, it is an excellent addition and super fun. |

The inclusion of mods like Protracted Battle enable players with slow builds like myself an opportunity to actually get something meaningful out of Legion encounters. Same goes for other passives that reduces Delirium fog dissipation speed and doubling timer on kills during Incursions.
I'm also extremely glad Harvest got a place among the others. I dislike that these are limited to the regions they are found in though, meaning a number of Delirium and Legion encounters will still be what they are right now which is bad for me, but at least Incursions can be saved up. That said, I'd love if Atlas passives applied throughout the entire Atlas instead of in their own regions. Other than that, this was a most welcome addition to the game. PoE players: Our game has a wide diversity of builds.
Also PoE players: The [league mechanic] doesn't need to be nerfed, you just need to play a [current meta] build! And the winds will cry / and many men will die / and all the waves will bow down / to the Loreley |
