elemental proliferation question
Hello,
I haven't been able to find out much about Elemental proliferation in terms of how the ailments work for it. Is it proportional to the underlying elemental damage or applied equally based on total damage? I know that if I have lightning damage, I have a chance to shock, and that is the graphic I see (shock) when I use elemental proliferation. But if I have no underlying fire or cold damage, does my attack still have a 20% chance to freeze and ignite, and the graphic is only showing shock because it is the biggest hit of the three, or am I just doing shock? And if the ailments are equal opportunists, how much ignite damage or freeze duration would I have with a lightning attack? In other words, assuming I have a 10k DPS lighting attack, is the gem treating the damage as if it's 10k of lightning/fire/cold when it triggers the gem and therefore delivers an appropriate amount of shock/ignite/freeze duration for a 10k hit, or does it scale depending on the damage type i.e. if I only do 50 fire damage, 7 cold damage, and 10k lighting damage, the ignite is based on the 50 damage and the freeze duration on the 7 damage, so therefore negligible? I suspect it's the latter, but confirmation would help. Thanks in advance! Last bumped on Dec 16, 2020, 11:41:53 PM

Normally you need fire damage to ignite and cold to chill/freeze.
There are some uniques like The Three Dragons that change this or Stormfire ring. But if you've nothing that allows this you will not be doing any ignites or freezing. edit: And yes, if you were to do 50 fire dmg and 7 cold damage, the ignite would be based on that 50 fire damage and well, your cold damage probably would only give so little chill that you wouldn't even notice it.
