Unable to name my character

Downloaded the game to play it for the first time today, I've mashed in 20+ variations on a name, then switched to another name and tried another 20+ variations.
I've used every alt-code I can find for nonstàndárd lèttèrs. I've even used multiple_words_separated_by_underscores.

after 50+ attempts to create a character, all names seem to be taken.
The only option left to attempt is adding a string of random numbers to the end of my name to create Jeffo2858756, or just mashing random keys and seeing if it'll let me name my character Ghagrghalasha.

Seriously, if this is a bug and just falsely claiming that every name is taken, patch it immediately.
If it's not a bug, fix it anyway

There's no excuse for a modern game to have this issue. This isn't 1998 anymore.

Have your characters be identified on the backend by 35 digit id-codes if you have to, then have all trades and PMs done by right-clicking on people's names in the chatbox.

This is not a good look to a newcomer looking to get into this game, sitting on the character-generator screen for 20 minutes being told that I can't create my character because 'Somebody else already has that name'

I don't care if someone else already has that name.
That shouldn't be my problem. The game should just handle that in the back ground and create my character anyway.
