Impale and Physical Overwhelm / Extra Taken
|
Trying to get clear how this works.
Wiki says 'impale is recorded before mitigation', Swift Skewering having un-mitigation implies that impale can be mitigated, impale is treated like reflected damage, reflected damage can be mitigated, and good game design would suggest you don't double penalise or double buff... So this is what I think happens, would appreciate if someone can confirm/deny/correct me. Assuming character has 100% hit, 100% impale chance, and I'm ignoring impale effect multiplier. First attack: - My ability does Physical Hit#1 onto Enemy (result of base damage, crits & global mods like projectile, bow, physical, et cetera) - Impale Stack#1 with 10% of that damage is created - Enemy's defences mitigate my Physical Hit#1, while my Overwhelm reduces the Enemy's mitigation - My 'Nearby Enemies take X% extra physical damage' effects increase the post-mitigation damage Second attack: - My ability does Physical Hit#2 onto Enemy - Impale Stack#2 with 10% of damage from Physical Hit #2 is created - Enemy takes two damage events, one for Physical Hit #2 and another for first dose of Impale Stack #1 damage - Enemy uses their defences to mitigate the two amounts, while my Overwhelm reduces their mitigation (and if I have Swift Skewering the Impale amount gets a bonus 10% Overwhelm over the standard) - My 'Nearby Enemies take X% extra physical damage' effects increase the post-mitigation damage for both Physical Hit#2 and first Impale Stack#1 === TL;DR I think that initial Impale stacks are generated without mitigation, but damage from impale stacks is affected by mitigation. Which means that impale stack damage events get advantages from Overwhelm & Enemy-takes-%-extra-physical, however initial size of impale calculations do not(?) Oh, this would also mean that Ensnaring Arrow doesn't benefit impale damage?
Cos as an 'increased damage taken' effect it applies after the impale stack's size has been calculated from the hit. But Ensnaring Arrow's description also specifies that it only applies to hits & therefore it presumably wouldn't buff the reflected-type damage from the impale's damage event? Or is it something that gets an exception? |
