Wand Physcial Damage and what to look for in a wand?
Disclaimer: I am new and am trying to learn more about the game.
I keep seeing wands having the physical damage stat, but upon some research I've seen people say that physical damage does not affect the majority of spells (albeit some do apply). So if I'm not concerned with physical damage, what should I be looking out for in a good wand? Also, how can I more easily judge what I want in a wand? I know the obvious like if I'm using Arc, I wouldn't care about fire damage (maybe for flame dash but idc about that). When should I switch one out for another? I'm following Enki's Arc Witch guide and am trying to understand what I am doing. I have these two wands currently (only 1 set of gems but I put them on both to compare them), and when I look at the stats changes within the character info panel, I really have no idea what matters and what doesn't. https://imgur.com/a/k9ioh9f Last edited by TheAlmightyZugs#5016 on Jun 24, 2020, 1:26:57 PM Last bumped on Jun 24, 2020, 2:12:04 PM

If you are not looking for Physical damage in a wand, or in other words if you are not using the wand for actually attacking enemies (You are not killing things with Kinectic Blast, Power Syphon, Barrage and so on), then you are a mage and you should look for things that boost elemental damage.
So you should look mainly for bonus like: - +x% Increased Spell Damage - add x to y [element] damage to spells - +x% Increased Critical Chance for Spells - +x% increase [element] damage - +x% Increase Cast Speed And you definitively don't want it to have: - +x% Increase Physical damage (only applies to attacks, not spells) - add x to y [element] damage to attacks - +x% increase attack speed - +x Accuracy rating - +x% chance to bleed/+x% increase bleeding duration (physical spells, alas, cannot proc bleeding. Yet.) You may it to have: > +x% increase Fire Damage over Time Multiplier if you mainly use a skill that deliver a Fire DoT (like Righteous Fire) or is specialized in Burning Damage > +x% increase Burning Damage / +x% chance to ignite : if your skill focus on killing by ignition and resultant burning (like a Fireball build) > +x% increase Cold Damage over Time Multiplier if you mainly use a skill that deliver a Cold DoT (like Wintertide Brand, Vortex or Arctic Breath) > +x% increase Chaos Damage over Time Multiplier if you mainly use a skill that deliver a Chaos DoT (like Bane, Essence Drain, Contagion...) or is focused in delivering Poison (so Physical or Chaos spells, or certain elemental spells while equipped with Volkuur's Guidance or items that changes elemental damage to chaos) > +x% chance to poison/ +x% increase poison duration : only if your main skill is capable of Poisoning, and you kill things mainly with Poison damage than hit damage > +x% Increase Critical Damage Multiplier : Pretty much in any case, except when you use Elemental Overload or, for some reason, Resolute Technique or some equipment that never let you deal critical strikes (for Romira's Banquet abusing) or give your critical hits no damage multiplier (like Shade of Solaris) > + x to all socketed [element] gems / + x to all [element] spells : if you are specializing in a single kind of damage spells. In the first case, only if you actually have your main skill in your wand (highly unlikely) |
