Sound Card stopped working after playing Path of Exile
I was just playing PoE and AFK'd a bit (went to Steam to check things). When I returned to the game I found it was crashing (Window not responding). So I closed it, and at first it didn't even launch.
Booting the PC fixed the PoE not launching issue, but at the same time I found out that my Sound Blaster Z completely stopped working. Or well producing audio at least. It has it's red light on so it's at least getting power/responding to Windows but there's no audio on my PC at all if using that device. If I switch to another Sound Device like HyperX Cloud 2 headset, I get audio. I've disabled and enabled the devices, but nothing seems to fix it, I've updated drivers and updated Windows 10. Audio issue is in the PC, the speakers work when connected to another audio device. Any Help? I've heard that PoE's audio engine is a bit nuts so it might be possible that the game just overloaded the Sound Card and it doesn't work any more. Last bumped on Jun 20, 2020, 7:50:09 PM

Hey man. I am in the same boat as well. Was playing PoE and then the game started to get laggy and it kicked me out. My PC froze and had to restart but now my audio crapped the bed and now I cannot hear anything.

" I completely uninstalled the sound card and installed it on my old PC, turns out it works on the old PC just fine. I went back to current PC and installed it there, and it works like before. Consider trying completely uninstalling/installing the sound card if possible? I learned that Sound Blaster Z and possibly other Creative sound cards have some kind of "fault/surge protection" and if it gets triggered it disables the device internally/partially. Maybe that's what happened in my case? But I'm kind of afraid of playing PoE again, at least for a while. Which is sad, as I was enjoying the League and the character. |
