Hi all, when i hit enemies with or without the energy leech support gem i don't see any difference in how fast i recover ES. I use it in conjuction with eldritch battery, to avoid using my mana, but other than buffing my damage it doesn't seem to actually leech ES (1.9% of damage leeched as ES)
Is there some hidden mechanic or is the difference so small that it's unnoticeable? If it's of any importance i gained eldritch battery from the devouring crown.

Look at this
Leech mechanic can recover 10/20% of maximum resource. If you have already this amount, you wount leech more with this gem.

Thank you for the reference, i figured it out. The wiki says : "Recovers at a rate of 2% of maximum life per second" this is the same for leeching ES as well.
Eventhough the Energy leech skill gem states that 1.9% of total damage is leeched i only recover 2% of my max ES per second no matter how much damage i do.
I have an ES of 200 which means i leech 4 ES per second/ enemy hit which is nothing because i use Scourge arrow which is a channeled skill and isn't very fast.

Your damage have huge impact on leech, leech is 1.9% of damage, dealt by hit of your skill (from gem), up to 10% of your maximum ES. So it will be 20ES per second total.
but if you deal low damage, you will have lower leech.
Only HIT damage counts to the leech. So DOT damage wont leech.

No, the formula of calculating recovery ,according to the wiki, is total_leech_recovery_rate_per_second = max_life * 2% * instances_of_leech . I don't have any extra ES leech instances so what i get is the basic 2% of my Max ES which is 200*2%=4 ES/sec. You might be hitting for 1 million/sec dps and have a leech of 100% but only get a tiny amount/sec if you have low recovery rate.
Edit: where max_life can also be the character's maximum mana or energy shield. (According to the Wiki). Also what i figured out is that Eldritch battery also cuts by 50% your ES recharge rate which means that my ES leech recovery is even slower.

Scourge arrow is a skill, that hits multiple times per second (every spore and arrow hit), so you should use formula not for every hit, but look for maximum hits.
To have 10% ES leech per second (20ES/ps) you should have 1K damage (its summ of all your hits every second). If you have more damage, it wont increase leech more then that.
As i can tell, you have 1k damage per second on lvl 20-30.... so you should have it already.
Do not try to look for every hit you make, look at total leech you can have.
P.S. ES leech is not the best gem in your build

Yeah well, i reserve too much mana from having many auras active and so i tried to use my ES, which is always full and unusable due to Divine Flesh, as a source of mana for skills. However the energy leech gem doesn't offer much in terms of actual ES recovery so i didn't notice any difference with or without it. As a result i switched to my old setup. In any case thank you for the contribution and time.
