How to craft the "best" necromancer weapon.

I am trying to organize my notes on how to craft the "best" necromancer weapon. I think I might be missing some steps here, or maybe the order is wrong or unnecessary, could anyone clarify and help me correct my notes on this? Anything else I missed? Thanks!!

How to craft the "best" Necromancer weapon that has:

Minions Deal % Increased Damage
+1 to Level of Socketed Gems
Grants Level 20 Aspect of the Avian Skill
Can have up to 3 Crafted Modifiers:
+2 to Level of Socketed Support Gems
Minions have % increased Attack Speed
Minions have % increased Cast Speed


Preliminary: Go to Options/UI and enable "Advance Mod Descriptions" to enable you to use the Alt key to hover over a weapon's attributes to see if it is a prefix or a suffix attribute.

Step 1: Buy/get a proper weapon base and item level such as mace/sword/axe or bow (can use quiver, but you cannot cyclone). Do not get a staff because it will have attack and caster modifiers that will be complicate crafting. However a warstaff could have % Chance to Block Attack Damage While Wielding A Staff -and- Minions have % Chance To Deal Double Damage. Consider buying/crafting the weapon to 6L with proper color sockets.

Step 2: Minions Deal % Increased Damage

Option 1 BUY. Go to Trade and buy a weapon with the prefix Minions Deal % Damage. Consider getting a cleaner weapon base that already has the Minions Deal % Increased Damage as the only remaining prefix (P), otherwise you will need to use orb of annulment (6 chaos each) to remove other unwanted prefix attributes randomly and possibly lose the desired prefix attribute. You can ignore all the suffixes for now. The weapon could cost anywhere from 1 chaos to 1 exalt.

Option 2 Use Essence: Craft Minions Deal % Increased Damage prefix onto the proper non-magic weapon base and item level. Use Deafening Essence of Fear (3 chaos), this will also create other prefixes (and suffixes) that you will have to remove with orb of annulment until only the desired prefix (Minions Deal % Increased Damage) is the only prefix remaining. You can ignore the suffixes and leave them on the weapon. Scour and repeat this process until the desired result of having only the desired prefix.

Option 3 Use Fossils: Use bound (1 chaos), frigid (1 alt), scorched fossils (1 alt) and a multi-socketed resonator (22 to 33 chaos) instead of essence, onto the proper non-magic weapon base and item level. Refer to option 2.


Step 3: 6 sockets and 6 Links

Craft 20% weapon quality
Craft + To Accuracy Rating + % To Quality to give the weapon a quality of over 20%
Craft 6 sockets using Crafting Recipe (350 jeweller's orbs)
Craft 6 links using Crafting Recipe (1500 fusings) or manual random fusing or use Fated Connections Prophecy (1.5 to 2 exalt) to create 6 sockets with 6 links using only jeweller's orbs.

Step 4: Remove the unwanted suffixes from the weapon
Craft Prefixes Cannot be Changed (2 exalt)
Then scour (or is it Orb of Annulment?) to remove the remaining unwanted suffixes.
[do I need to leave one suffix behind for step 6??]

Step 5: Now that you have a clean weapon with only the Minions Deal % Increased Damage prefix, craft "Cannot Roll Attack Modifiers" (1 exalt)
[why? or is this necessary?]

Step 6: Use a Farric Wolf Alpha (22 chaos) to transform a suffix to a prefix so you can get the +1 to the Level of Socketed Gems.
[does this mean I need at least one unwanted suffix for this to work?]

Step 7: Craft Aspect of Avian Skill thru Beastiary. Buy Saqawal, First of the Sky (33 chaos), go to Beastiary and Craft Aspect of the Avian Skill onto the weapon.

Step 8: Craft "Can have up to 3 Crafted Modifiers" (2 exalt)

Step 9: Craft "+2 to Level of Socketed Support Gems" (2 exalt).

To get this crafting recipe, you can buy weapons (2 to 10 chaos each) with the "Catarina's Veiled" prefix. You can observe this when you hover over the veiled weapon attribute in the Trade site. Buy enough veiled weapons to unveil until you level-up your crafting recipe.

Step 10: Craft "Minions have % increased Attack Speed + Minions have % increased Cast Speed" (4 chaos)

To get this crafting recipe, you can buy two-handed veiled weapons (1 chaos each) with the "of the veil" suffix NOT the "veiled" prefix. You can observe this when you hover over the veiled weapon attribute in the Trade site. Buy enough veiled weapons to unveil until you level-up your crafting recipe.


Total Cost: Minimum 7.5 to 9 exalt

I think that part of the "minions deal more damage" is a bit misleading. In POE, more/less has a specific meaning and it's not the same as increased/reduced.

Oh you're right, fixed the original post, I should have used the exact words thanks. ...any thoughts on the suffixes and how to deal with them at what step?

Sorry, don't think I can help you much. I'm not an expert in crafting.

I hardly do crafting or min-maxing character. I like playing necro and I've been lucky enough to get the incursion mods weapon few times. So, I'm happy with that lol.

been buying unveiled two-handed melee weapons with of the veil suffix for 1 chaos each ahve bought for a total of 140 chaos have not even got one minions attackspeed/minions cast speed yet.

Edit: misread, this is about a 2H with 6 sockets, not wands, right?

I think you missed the step with crafting "+1 to Level of Socketed Gems", should be step 2 or 3?
