Confused about duplicate skill gems in separate socket groups
This is what the "Skills" section says:
"If multiple copies of the same skill gem exist in different groups, then the character receives several versions of the augmented skill, each with the appropriate supports. This means that you can have both a castable augmented version of "Fireball" as well as an augmented version of the skill that lays a Fireball Trap." Since that is what's posted, I might assume that it is the current, most accurate explanation, and that would be good enough for me, except- I seem to recall reading (at some indistinct time in the past) a Dev stating that, if you wanted to have additional Supports on a skill, you could put duplicate skill gems in other socket groups with different support gems and they would apply as one skill. It may actually have been so, at one point, and subsequently changed. I'm just seeking some clarification, before I waste a lot of time and sockets on this. I know what I suspect to be correct, given game balance, and what is posted in the Skills section, but I'd as soon be sure. From my experience you can have one gem per chain, but the same gem across numerous chains although they will not stack that way.
ex. I have my body that has weapon elemental+burning arrow and my helmet has weapon elemental+burning arrow. This setup gives two different burning arrow attacks both with the same dps and weapon elemental bonus. If I took the second weapon elemental to my chest and put weapon elemental+weapon elemental+burning arrow it would remain the same as you cannot stack two of the same gem in one chain Sorry if im not much help, I tried though I7-2600k 4.1ghz/16GB 1333/6950 2GB/60GB SSD/2TB HDD/850w PSU

Before, you could have the same skill socketed multiple times with different supports attached to each which would give you 1 skill with a lot of mods. This was changed. Largely because it was to easy to create monster skills, and it devalued the need of 6-slot linked items (because you could achieve the same result with the much more common 2/3 linked slot items).
Currently, if you have multiples of the same skill, you'll simply have independent versions of the same skill socketed. You can have the same skill, socketed multiple times, with different mod gems creating slightly different versions of the same skill however. For example: If you have 2 Ground Slam gems, one with a stun gem and one with a +fire gem attached, you'll have 2 different variations of the same skill. But you wont have 1 skill with both +fire and stun. "the premier Action RPG for hardcore gamers." -GGG Happy hunting/fishing Last edited by Wittgenstein#0994 on Apr 18, 2012, 10:19:06 AM
