They are doing a large amount of physical damage (with an extra elements eventually according to map modes).

1) Pay better attention, just don´t jump into pack and use some tactic (split them and kill them)
2) Shattering them (if you can) = no on death effect
3) wall them off -- cwdt + frostwall

4)
We know nothing about your defenses but improve your physical mitigation and/or add some avoidance.
If I am not mistaken it´s rather spell (on death effect) than an attack so spell dodge/block.

If you have high armour use VMS and activate it before.

I believe my max evasion build from couple of seaons ago was immune to them

Porcupines on death is a physical (attack? I seem to recall a high eva build doing fine with them). With 11k armor and 3 endurance charges a full pack of them isn't too painful. Some decent phys mitigation goes a long way with them - especially armor cause it's a bunch of smaller hits all at once doing you in.

Yes Physical damage.
Try an armour flask.
And, as noted above, don't just jump in the middle of a pack.

Dropping in an Abyssal Cry works very well as a quick solution for these guys.
I have a pretty good sense of humor. I'm not German.
while CWDT+IC was useful before 3.0, now we also have to consider the crome-touched version.

A player (don't remember who), discovered that spikes or on-death effect in general are removed if the corpse itself is destroyes. It started using lv1 CWDT with any Offering (spirit/flesh/bone), and discoved that in those cases spikes disappeared midair.

It's an extra option, but won't be really effective if you go melee or jump in a pack. For that you just need to destroy the corpse on death (kitava's thirst, ignite with Pyre on, Shatter, Inpulsa or other Explode-on-death mods...)
