Despair on hit or Elemental Weakness on hit is better for 1 hit wipe screen elemental attacks?
So I check with path of builder, Elemental weakness on hit have 5% more dps than Despair on hit for burning arrow.
But if I am not wrong, I heard long ago, elemental weakness on hit is effective only on your second hit and thereafter, which means if I am a 1 hit wipe screen build, it might be wiser to just use Despair on hit which is effective immediately on first hit. I’ve never heard of anything like that, but it could have been the case in the past I suppose. On hit means on hit. As long as the skill hits, any on hit application will be effective every time the skill hits. DoT does not hit, so your skill will need a hit source in order to proc either. Most but not all skills have a hit source built in.

" I did not explain myself well, english is not my first language so I will use a troublesome examples to showcase my thoughts. Case 1, Elemental Weakness on hit First hit - Elemental Weakness on hit and 400kdps ignite damage. Second hit - Since enemy have -40 fire resistance now, so enemy takes more dps from the new ignite which overides the old ignite and now we have 500kdps ignite damage. Case 2, Despair on hit First hit - Despair on hit and 470 kdps ignite damage, the ignite is not 400kdps because despair directly increases the damage taken by enemy. Second hit - 470 kdps ignite. Fair enough. I’m not sure when the on hit affect is calculated, before or after damage. In any case I don’t see much relevance. Both curses should function in the same manner though, however that is.

" From https://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Hit "On Hit" effects are when the player hits the enemy, and "When Hit" is when the enemy hits the player. In general, most effects are applied after the hit is completed and damage is dealt, since magnitude of damage is used to compute the magnitude of effect. These include, but are not limited to: gain temporary buffs (e.g. charges) inflict debuffs (e.g. curses or bleed) _______________________________________ But now i think overthinking for 5% dps is kinda stupid, so I am going to leave it as it is, despair templar gloves. " For damage over time the effect of resistances updates in real time. So in Case 1 you'd hit, apply a 400kdps dot and lower their resistances so that dot immediately starts doing 500kdps. The error in your case 1 is also why fire penetration can't help burning arrow - the tooltip damage is what sets the base damage of the ignite, not the actual damage done. So the fact that the hit that applies the curse gets resisted doesn't matter as far as the resulting burn damage is concerned. So whichever curse is showing you better numbers in PoB will win out. Keep in mind that only the targets you actually hit (not others that the dot proliferates to) will receive the extra damage so this really isn't going to help burning arrow screen clear in either case. It'll be helping your single target DPS and as such I'd recommend setting the PoB configuration to 'boss' or even 'elder/shaper guardian' to figure out which helps your bossing DPS most. " Thanks for solving the mystery, the top burning arrow builds are indeed using elemental weakness. I was confused by https://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Ignite The following modifiers will directly affect the damage of ignite: 1. Damage 2. Damage over Time 3. Elemental Damage etc. However I forgot there could be a play on words, meaning -40% fire resistance can indirectly affect the damage of ignite. |
