Skill Gem Storage

New player here. Do people keep all of the skill gems in their storage or just go to a vendor when they want to try different skills? Are there some skill gems that have a lower drop rate etc.? Right now my stash is filled with these skill gems and I have the feeling I am doing something wrong. Please advise. Thank you

Just buy from npc. Starting act 6 you get one unlocked who sells almost all the gems.

I only keep gems with increased quality to sell them to npc when I've enough of them.
Thanks for the reply. How about VAAL Corrupted skill gems? is it best to keep those or just a case by case basis?

Thanks

Pretty much.

It doesn’t take too much space to keep gems that cannot be bought; empower, Vaal gems, high quality, good corrupts, etc.

There are a few recipes that may want to keep extra gems for as well. 7 Vaal gems and a fragment sell for a Vaal orb. 40% worth of quality gems sells for a gem cutters prism.
The only gems i keep:

quality gems to vendor recipe (40% total quality on gems = 1 gemcutters prism)

Empower, Enlighten, Enhance, Portal (these gems are DROP ONLY, you cant buy them from vendors)

Even vaal gems, i dont keep. Because you cannot quality/level 21 them. Ill level a normal version to 20/20, and then vaal orb it (or temple corrupt it)
From Vaal gems keep only those You will use. Rest - vaal orb recipe.
I have a stash tab dedicated to skill gems, it's barely big enough, kind of annoying. 1/3 of it is for dumping %quality gems that I will vendor for gem cutter prisms when I have 20-30 of them.

I have a big chunk of different gems that I keep switching back and forth from this season because I can't settle on what my build should be and keep experimenting, it saves me having to run back and forth from the vendor.
I have seven stash tabs for gems. For each colour, the first is for active skill gems, the second is for support and Vaal skill gems, and the third is for those at max level or quality. I use the seventh tab for all extra Vaal skill gems and any with quality (I use them for vendor recipes).

I play in standard (SSF), and have kept the same character for years. I've transitioned my character from one set of skills to another more than once. It's nice to always have different skill gems—and many at more than their starting values—at hand. It makes it easy to test out different setups.

Using a loot filter yet?

Toward the bottom of Filterblade go to "miscellaneous" -> "skill gems" -> "gem tiers" and then choose Hide "Tier 3, remaining gems without quality"

Keep the % quality gems for the gemcutter's vendor recipe

One can sell a gem with 20% quality to any vendor for a Gemcutter's Prism.

One can sell any number of gems whose total quality is at least 40% to any vendor for a Gemcutter's Prism.

Save the vaal gems for the Vaal Orb vendor recipe too

That sounds awful, just shrink them real small and make them a pretty color.
Need a new signature, cuz name change. I dunno though. I guess this seems fine. Yeah, this is good.
