About Intelligent Standby List Cleaner (ISLC)

Hi folks,
Due to my potato PC and latest update that messed up loading times of the textures, I have been searching things to improve the performance. I have found that there is a tool called Intelligent Standby List Cleaner which monitors and clears the memory standby list after certain size threshold. I have used it once and observed stutters are reduced. But I am not sure if this is fine by GGG, since there is no official post about it. The tool itself accesses the memory and I wanted to ask if it can be regarded as cheating by the engine. Some people in Global chat stated that users may be banned using this tool (because of the memory accesses). Although it is a well known thing and it is used for other games by the community, I wanted to hear your opinion about it. Regards Last bumped on Mar 29, 2020, 3:05:46 PM

" Cuz it's a crappy single player game based solely on basic damage conversions and random elemental/defensive procs and nothing else to a point where only game rivaling in simplicity is torchlight series which at least have a good pace going for them? But on a serious note, nowhere does it say that PoE is light on PC specs, now the OP clearly stated that he has a potato PC, and it's not a secret that ever since ggg remade A1 town, they are slowly overhauling everything, which means that every few patches players with low end machines will feel more and more left behind, and while i can understand the frustration, i don't really believe it's a bad thing. As for your conundrum, you are free the leave. The game has no subscription fee so there's nothing holding you here. No rest for the wicked.

ISLC is not reading the memory ...
" ISLC just uses windows counters to get the sizes (available memory, standby list). When those sizes reaches a threshold, ISLC calls a windows function to clear the standby list. I don't think GGG would have any problem with that. |

After some research I have read things similar. It seems it just accesses the standby list. Standby list holds the entries which are not used by the process but kept unchanged in case process needs those pages again (it is some kind of caching in concept, but it is applied for previously used memory).
I am very curious to learn how standby list cleaner software improves the performance (or helps solving stuttering), because there is no mechanism that prevents usage of memory blocks listed in standby list, since it is stated that if another process requires memory, it is allocated to that process and entry is removed from the standby list. |

I would think memory is allocated slower if windows has to look into the standby list to free some memory ?
For an application, it would not be a problem, and in a game, it could cause stuttering. |
